Chapter 143: Anomaly

"I know my own body best," she said, sounding somewhat helpless.

Having finally managed to break free from his grasp, Ji Meiqing turned around and faced him with a look of utter helplessness on her face.

"Let's go eat first, I'm fine." Her stomach still felt terrible, as if she had eaten something awful, but she forced herself to go straight back to her room.

I drank lots and lots of water before I went to rest.

My stomach felt bloated, but not as uncomfortable as before. However, my mind was becoming clearer, and I didn't feel as tired. Even though my body was very tired, and my eyelids were closed, I still couldn't fall asleep.

Lu Yu entered from outside, covered in mist. Hearing the sound, she immediately feigned death. However, her senses were extremely sharp; the bed sank slightly, and a heavy object approached her.

"Are you still feeling unwell?" he suddenly asked.

Ji Meiqing immediately pretended to be asleep, her breathing deep and even, but her heart was pounding.

Seeing that she didn't move, Lu Yu took her hand and examined her. Her weakness was more serious than he had thought.

He looked at her face, a fleeting look of worry crossing his eyes.

Ji Meiqing waited anxiously, but somehow she felt sleepy and slowly drifted off to sleep.

By the next day, she was refreshed and radiant, a completely different person from the day before.

After a good night's sleep, she ate breakfast as usual and went out to get some sample wines before heading into town to give them to Old Man Lin.

After that, she waited for news. The matter was simple, and she returned quickly. Ji Tianci wasn't too surprised to see her; he glanced up at the commotion and then continued reading.

"How are you?" She walked over and looked at him writing and drawing on the paper, but she didn't know how he was doing.

Ji Tianci ignored her and silently stared at the book in front of him. Although it was tedious, he didn't really want to see Ji Meiqing anymore.

Feeling neglected, Ji Meiqing was also a bit confused, not understanding what was wrong with her.

"I'm going to read now. Sister, you can go out if you don't have anything else to do."

Her expression turned cold, clearly showing her rejection.

"What's wrong with you?"

Ji Tianci didn't speak, and the room fell silent. She looked at him for a long time before leaving, closing the door behind her. No one knew what was wrong with her.

Seeing her sullen expression, Lu Yu said with concern, "Tianci is busy memorizing his lessons lately, so you shouldn't bother him."

"I was just looking... I don't know why he has such a strong opinion about me."

"Then you'll have to ask yourself..." he said helplessly. "Being away from home all the time, it's inevitable that some of your emotions will fester."

"I'm busy," she said, rubbing her head. "There's so much going on at the distillery lately, and now we have to hire more people..."

"Haven't you realized that your life has become all about money?"

Ji Meiqing wanted to refute him, but she couldn't find the words. She needed money more than ever before, more than she had ever imagined. It was just that her thoughts were only now emerging.

"Think it over carefully. I'm taking him to ride and shoot first." He walked past her and went inside. A moment later, laughter erupted from inside. They acted as if they didn't even see Ji Meiqing, chatting and laughing as they passed by her. Ji Meiqing stood there watching them laugh, feeling somewhat bewildered.

She wanted to make money, lots and lots of money. Was that wrong? She really couldn't understand it...

“Madam, you’ve been running around all the time lately, and Young Master Lu has been managing the house and the wine shop all by himself.” Granny Mei came over, her face full of reproach, seemingly annoyed by her lack of understanding.

She lowered her head, looking at her shoes and her clothes. She was almost dressed in fine silks and satins, and the two of them were no longer as intimate as before.

She couldn't figure out what had happened to her. Perhaps she was possessed by something, which was why she wasn't herself anymore.

It seems that only this excuse can satisfy the current needs.

After a quiet two weeks, laughter finally returned from the Jiang family; the head of the Jiang family had come in person. Ji Meiqing was slightly surprised for a moment before regaining her composure.

Old Man Lin informed her that they would only come when Jiang Ziyi appeared. The three of them decided to lure Jiang Ziyi into a trap, and Ji Meiqing thought it was a good idea, so she agreed.

The goods need to be delivered in a few days.

The weather was getting colder and colder. She stood at the entrance of the wine shed early in the morning, watching them use small carts to carry out vat after vat of wine. Jiang Ziyi also arranged for boats to leave once the wine was full.

After the goods were inventoried, Ji Meiqing finally wrote it down. It wasn't until noon that she finally met Jiang Ziyi's men.

As soon as he came in, he asked her directly, "Where's the wine?"

"I've already packed it. I wonder where you intend to send it, young master."

Jiang Ziyi was a little anxious, "You can just drop us off at the dock nearby, why haven't you left yet today?"

“Okay…” She gestured outside. Ji Meiqing looked at him, then suddenly thought of the Jiang family, and hesitated.

As if afraid she wouldn't believe him, Jiang Ziyi said ambiguously, "If the goods aren't enough, you can let me know, and wait..."

“What will happen to them once you take the money and leave?” The Jiang family members couldn’t stand it anymore and came out from behind the screen.

Jiang Ziyi was startled. "Who are you?"

“He’s a subordinate of my friend.” Her explanation put Jiang Ziyi at ease. However, Ji Meiqing pulled the two of them aside and said, “This one is about the same age as us. If Young Master Jiang doesn’t mind, he can discuss this with us.”

"No need, it's alright now." He waved his hand, but suddenly felt a sense of danger, though he didn't know where it was.

She then carefully observed the people in the room. They possessed an extraordinary air about them, their manners and speech suggesting they were not ordinary people, but rather the bearing of wealthy individuals. How Ji Meiqing had managed to befriend such a large group of people remained somewhat mysterious.

"This man's surname is Lin. You can call him Uncle Lin, just like I do." Ji Meiqing smiled and then looked at the stranger beside her with a smile.

She knew who it was without anyone introducing her.

"This is the current head of the Jiang family..."

Jiang Ziyi was startled. He didn't understand what was going on, but Ji Meiqing and the others all had knowing expressions, and he understood as well.

"Your scheme?"

He was somewhat unwilling to accept that he had been captured so easily.

"Guards, seize him!" Ji Meiqing shouted, and immediately a number of people were brought in from outside. Even a fool would know what had happened.
