Chapter 144: Catching the Thief
"What do you mean by this?" Jiang Ziyi glared at her angrily and questioned her calmly.
Ji Meiqing raised her chin. "What do I mean? I can't say much about the Ji family's affairs, but let's talk about you. What did Madam Ji mean by sending you here? And you even impersonated the Jiang family from Jiangnan... You really are shameless."
After she finished speaking, she didn't even look at his ugly face, and went straight to Old Man Lin, who was still sitting leisurely to the side, and said respectfully, "I have caught the person impersonating the Jiang family. If you don't have any special requests, I will send him away now."
"The Ji family." He suddenly chuckled twice, casually flicking the teacup lid, as if he didn't care about anything. She looked at him, closely watching his next move.
"The Ji family also sent wine, and the taste is exactly the same as yours." He said what he hadn't finished saying earlier, which made Ji Meiqing pause for a moment, somewhat at a loss for words.
However, out of consideration for her feelings, she couldn't ask directly, so she could only look at Jiang Ziyi. Behind her, Old Man Lin laughed and said, "The wines sent by your two families, I don't know which one is real and which one is fake. Since you think the Ji family deceived you, do you have any evidence to prove your point?"
Ji Meiqing understood, "We made a deal with them a few days ago, and all the stock has been sent away. There is no wine now."
"When will it be available?"
"Next month... at least when the delivery comes next month." She lowered her head, her eyes darting back and forth over her feet.
"Let's talk about that next month." He stood up, waved, and left with his men in a good-natured manner.
Once she was the only one left in the room, Ji Meiqing turned to look at Jiang Ziyi and said, "You can leave now."
Hearing her words, the person next to him released Jiang Ziyi. He glared fiercely at the people on both sides, rubbing his arm.
“You haven’t done anything wrong, so it’s not appropriate to take you to the authorities.”
Ji Meiqing felt nothing about his malice and continued doing her own thing, but Jiang Ziyi was ungrateful.
"You came here today just to capture me?"
"Otherwise?" she retorted. I wanted to warn her, "I don't know what Madam Ji might do, but if anyone poses a threat to us... no matter who it is, we will not spare them..."
She looked down at the knife tip against her neck. While she was speaking, Jiang Ziyi twisted in front of her, holding a knife he'd somehow found, the blade pressed directly against her neck. Ji Meiqing glanced at it briefly, suppressing her fear.
"Are you scared?" He smiled eerily, as if he were insane. She could already feel the knife in Jiang Ziyi's hand beginning to slit her throat.
Unable to speak for a moment, Ji Meiqing simply asked in a hoarse voice, "What are you doing?"
"Where's the money?" he asked, leaning close to her ear. "Give me that money, and I'll let you go."
She thought of that huge sum of money. It was a pity that it was no longer with her. She had entrusted it to Lu Yu for safekeeping, thinking that if she were to die one day, the money would allow him to live a good life, like a true hermit.
"I used it." She snapped out of her reverie. After all, Lu Yu had saved her life, and she had no way to repay his kindness. This was probably the greatest way she could repay him.
Jiang Ziyi didn't believe it. "How could you just spend such a large sum of money like that!"
"If you don't believe me, fine, but I really don't have that money..." She was somewhat helpless, the knife tip against her neck was going deeper and deeper, as if it would pierce her neck in the next second.
Jiang Ziyi reached out and rummaged through her body, finding the money pouch, which contained only a few taels of silver.
"I already said I didn't." Seeing him like this, Ji Meiqing felt a little sorry for him, but the problem of whether she could bear it or not was not with her. If the Ji family hadn't been so greedy, perhaps everything would have been fine.
The atmosphere around him suddenly turned cold, as if he had suddenly entered the dead of winter. Jiang Ziyi realized that something was wrong. He turned around and saw a handsome man standing behind him with a gloomy face that seemed to be dripping with ink.
Ji Meiqing also saw him and was puzzled as to why he had come. The knife tip went deeper, and this time she was speechless.
In his haste, Lu Yu almost climbed up, which would have put her life in danger, but blood had already begun to seep from her neck.
I was extremely anxious and didn't know what to do.
"Is that money in your hands?!" he asked menacingly. He gestured with his hand, drawing attention to hers as if to say, "If you don't give me the money, I'll kill her right now."
Lu Yu paused, then said, "It's in my hands."
Upon hearing this, Ji Meiqing suddenly felt a desire to die, and she roughly knew what was going to happen next. Unfortunately, she was currently unable to do anything, and speaking was still very difficult; any movement of her neck could very likely result in a hole.
"Give it to me, give it to me and I'll let her go!" He became excited immediately upon hearing the answer. Lu Yu looked at Ji Meiqing and took her out of his pocket without thinking.
He always carried those silver notes with him; they were a thick stack. Jiang Ziyi's gaze was immediately drawn to the money.
Lu Yu threw the money directly into the air, and the money floated everywhere. Jiang Ziyi rushed over without thinking, wanting to collect all of it.
Her neck suddenly loosened, and she almost fell over, but luckily she reacted quickly and sat down on a chair next to her.
Lu Yu rushed over at lightning speed to support her. Looking at the wound on her neck, he couldn't help but feel angry.
"How could you give him the money?" she scolded immediately. "Even if I were dead, you shouldn't have given it to him."
The two watched as Jiang Ziyi kept picking up silver notes. She covered her neck and was helped to a chair by Lu Yu.
There were quite a few silver notes on the ground, and he couldn't pick them all up in a short time. Lu Yu went over, picked him up, pressed his pressure points, and threw him aside.
He went back to look at Ji Meiqing and examined the wound on her neck. It wasn't too deep or too shallow; it was just a small cut.
"Don't move." He looked intently, his eyes fixed on her neck, and then went to the kitchen to get some gauze and medicine to bandage her neck.
Ji Meiqing didn't dare to move at all, and her eyes kept trying to glance at Lu Yu, but unfortunately she could only see his hair and nothing else.
The powder, applied to her neck, caused a slight stinging sensation. She frowned slightly, feeling somewhat uncomfortable.
