Chapter 146: Moved
Chapter 146: Moved
Chapter 146: Moved by Emotion
That time, neither of them had any money, she was in critical condition, and delirious. She didn't even realize she had taken the medicine. But now, she was looking at Lu Yu in front of her.
He took the empty bowl and left. Ji Meiqing sat on the bed, staring blankly at his hurried departure, somewhat dazed.
It seems like she's the one who got taken advantage of.
Lu Yu silently returned to the kitchen. The dishes were almost washed, and he took them over. But he saw Granny Mei staring at him and smiling, and Lu Yu's face instantly turned red.
He felt a little uncomfortable, but could only quickly leave after putting down his chopsticks. Even without anyone reminding him, Lu Yu couldn't help but think about what had just happened.
Their lips were soft, and the medicine tasted sweet between them. Ji Meiqing didn't refuse, and her thoughts drifted deeper into her mind.
He shook his head, banishing all those fanciful thoughts from his mind, and then walked towards the woodshed.
Jiang Ziyi was locked inside, unable to move or make a sound. He was terribly hungry, but there was nothing to eat, so he could only stare helplessly.
The door was suddenly opened, and he immediately looked over. When he saw that it was Lu Yu, his eyes darkened again.
"Are you hungry?" he asked knowingly, as he walked over and squatted down in front of him.
Jiang Ziyi was speechless and could only lower his head, looking dejected.
"If you hadn't hurt your brow, you might still have dinner tonight."
He remained motionless, as if he had given up hope. Lu Yu released his pressure points, allowing him to speak.
"What brings Madam Ji here?"
He didn't answer.
Lu Yu threatened, "If you don't talk, I'll send you to the government office tomorrow. Regardless of whether you've committed a crime or not, I'll just give you some silver and exile you to the frontier."
"They devised a scheme to bankrupt you." Jiang Ziyi finally spoke, his tone full of helplessness. After answering Lu Yu's question, he began to state his demands: "Give me food, or you might as well send me to the authorities."
Lu Yu glanced at him, then sealed the acupoints on his body before going out to get him some food. There wasn't much left over from dinner, just a bowl of cold rice and some pickled vegetables. He brought it over and placed it in front of Jiang Ziyi.
Leftovers were better than any delicacy to Jiang Ziyi, whose stomach was already empty. He could eat anything as long as it filled his stomach.
He wolfed down all the food in his bowl, then put down his chopsticks. After a while, he burped and then Lu Yu spoke.
"Alright, tell me everything else. Is there anything else?"
Jiang Ziyi glanced at him and slowly said, "We'll first attract your attention with silver. Once you're willing to cooperate with us, we'll temporarily withdraw. When you lose credibility elsewhere and can't find partners for a while, you'll naturally decline."
"That simple?" he sneered. "Do you think I'd believe that?"
"Actually, we'll gradually increase your workload and delay using public funds until we've exhausted you all, then we'll leave."
Lu Yu thought for a moment, then looked him up and down. "What's your name?"
"Jiang Ziyi".
He emphasized: "The real name."
"Jiang Yi".
Lu Yu got up and slowly walked outside. He had already found out almost everything he wanted to know. Now it was up to Ji Meiqing to decide what to do.
However, the ending is unlikely to be good.
After washing up, he returned to the room. He had assumed she was already asleep, which would ease the awkwardness between them.
But to his surprise, he saw Ji Meiqing reading a book as soon as he came in.
After exchanging glances, Ji Meiqing turned her head first and asked awkwardly, "Are you done?"
"It's all done." Knowing that she was deliberately trying to ease the tension between them, Lu Yu chimed in, "It seems that Madam Ji wants to bankrupt us."
He glanced at her, and seeing no surprise on her face, he felt a pang of guilt. "You knew?"
"I guessed it." She said helplessly, "Madam Ji has always disliked me, so she guessed it when she found out that Jiang Ziyi was related to her."
He didn't know what to say, so he rolled onto the bed, and the two of them jolted. Awkwardness returned to them, and Ji Meiqing didn't know how to defuse the situation.
"I'll read for a while." She reached for the book next to her, wanting to continue reading, but realized that what she had just been looking at was a currently popular storybook. She paused, then subconsciously looked at Lu Yu, only to find that he was looking at her in the same way.
The book in her hand was immediately closed and placed under her pillow. She quickly burrowed into the covers. "Go to sleep."
Lu Yu chuckled twice, seemingly quite pleased. Ji Meiqing, however, felt like cursing, her face flushed beyond recognition.
The candle by the bed was extinguished, plunging the room into complete darkness. She lay beside Lu Yu, too afraid to move. Her eyes were closed, and she kept urging herself to fall asleep.
The more nervous she became, the less she could sleep.
Lu Yu had a strong will and fell asleep quickly. His long, even breathing seemed to have a hypnotic effect, and she soon relaxed and fell asleep with him.
Perhaps because she was always on edge and wary of Lu Yu, she suddenly dreamed of him again.
In my dream, he was whispering sweet nothings to me. The words sounded familiar, but I couldn't place where I had heard them before.
She looked at the person in front of her and wanted to reach out her hand, but Lu Yu pulled her over and started waltzing with her.
The dream shifted, and the two were on a dance floor. She was wearing a medieval dress, and Lu Yu was wearing a tuxedo, looking quite gentlemanly.
With smiles on their faces, they couldn't help but kiss as their emotions ran deep.
But Lu Yu was getting farther and farther away, until everything around him disappeared. The magnificent dance floor turned white. She looked at all of that and couldn't help but cry out, and then she woke up with a start.
"What's wrong with you?" Ji Meiqing was startled when she opened her eyes to Lu Yu's worried gaze. She looked at the window behind him, where the white light made it seem like it was already morning.
Thinking about what had just happened, she breathed a sigh of relief. It was just a dream, it was just a dream...
Looking at Lu Yu again, she said somewhat weakly, "I'm fine."
Lu Yu looked at her suspiciously, somewhat disbelieving what he was saying. She was fine, so why had she been calling his name all night?
"It's morning, I'm going to wash up first." She crawled over her feet to get dressed, then casually twisted her hair.
Lu Yu got up and dressed. The two of them went out of the room together, which surprised Granny Mei.
It was bright outside, but unfortunately, it wasn't very warm. All the leaves in the yard had fallen, leaving only a bare stick covered in branches.
