Chapter 138: Emotions
"It's alright, it's my treat." Jiang Ziyi seemed oblivious to her predicament and pulled her inside.
Once inside the building, the two took their seats on the third floor. A waiter, with a professional smile, approached them after serving tea and water and asked, "What would you two like to eat?"
"What do you want to eat?" Jiang Ziyi asked, looking directly at her.
Ji Meiqing looked around and asked, "Do you have a menu?"
"The signs are all downstairs. If you want to order, we can have someone bring them over right away."
"No need." She smiled kindly, glanced at the table, and said, "Some simple seasonal dishes will do, Young Master Jiang can take care of the rest."
The waiter looked at Jiang Ziyi again, who thought for a moment before ordering the food, speaking rather cautiously.
The dishes were already ordered, and none of them were fancy. The waiter turned around, and his fawning smile immediately turned into contempt and disdain.
"Wait a minute." Ji Meiqing suddenly called out to him, startling Jiang Ziyi who was next to him, but he was not noticed.
The waiter turned around. "What else do you want?"
The way they looked at them was as if they knew they wouldn't order any expensive dishes.
"A serving of spicy lobster, plus beggar's chicken, Buddha Jumps Over the Wall... and a serving of steamed sea bass."
The waiter was taken aback, then apologized, "Sorry, we don't have that here."
"Then it's what we just ordered. Also, as a place that serves food, how can you not even have these? What else could you possibly have here?"
Ji Meiqing smiled dismissively. The waiter was taken aback and quickly apologized. But Ji Meiqing simply waved his hand, dismissing them.
After the door closed, Ji Meiqing noticed that Jiang Ziyi was covered in a cold sweat. Looking around the room, she felt a little confused. "Are you very hot?"
"Probably," he replied vaguely.
Ji Meiqing sat for a while and didn't feel that it was hot anywhere. The temperature was fine; it was late autumn, and the temperature had dropped, so it didn't feel particularly hot. But the person in front of her looked like she had just been taken out to be exposed to the scorching sun.
When the dishes were served, Ji Meiqing immediately picked up her chopsticks. It took her quite a while to realize that Jiang Ziyi hadn't eaten much; there was still more than half a bowl of white rice left in her bowl.
"Why don't you eat?"
"I...eat." He looked at the rice in front of him, pretended to eat several mouthfuls, and then slowed down.
Looking at the food on the table, his heart ached as if it were bleeding. So much food, so much money…
After the meal, Jiang Ziyi asked, "Is there anything else, Madam?"
"It's nothing." She shook her head and looked out the window at the sky, which was so gloomy it seemed about to collapse.
She looked at him for a while, then looked at Jiang Ziyi and said apologetically, "I'm so sorry, it's getting late and it's about to rain, so I'll have to go now."
"Hmm... If the goods are ready, just send a message here. I'll be staying here for a few more days."
"Okay." She left, then, like everyone else on the street, rubbed her sleeves and walked along the road. Head down, she walked against the wind.
Back home, Grandma Mei called out, "Dinner will be ready soon, just a moment."
"It's alright, I've already eaten." She brought in all the clothes drying in the yard. "It's going to rain soon, and this house isn't very sturdy. Mother-in-law, hurry up and finish cooking, or it might not be possible to finish later."
"Okay!" she called out.
Soon, large raindrops began to fall. Ji Meiqing looked at the sky, went back inside to find an umbrella, thinking that if they hadn't returned by then, she would go out with the umbrella to look for them.
"Grandma, do you know where Lu Yu and the others went?" She ducked into the small kitchen. Grandma Mei was sitting behind the stove adding firewood to the fire. Seeing her come in, she immediately pushed her out.
"The kitchen is so smoky, you'd better not come in." She pushed her out the door before answering her question, "No, but she must have taken the young master out horseback riding."
"We're back..." Ji Tianci ran in from outside, his clothes not quite soaked yet. He went straight through the rain to Granny Mei's side and asked, "Is the food ready? I'm hungry?"
"You'll have to wait a bit." She looked at Ji Tianci, a smile finally appearing on her wrinkled face.
Ji Meiqing watched Lu Yu slowly walk over, his clothes completely soaked. Then she looked at her younger brother, who seemed to be alright. "You brought him back with you."
“Yes.” Lu Yu glanced at her, then returned to Ji Tianci’s room. Ji Meiqing quickly went to the kitchen to borrow a pot and cooked two bowls of ginger soup. Then she took one of the bowls and wanted to go find Lu Yu.
"Sister, we saw you having dinner with another man," Ji Tianci said very seriously. Ji Meiqing was taken aback, as if she hadn't heard him clearly, and wanted him to repeat himself.
“We saw you having dinner with another man.”
“I…” She hesitated for a moment, then went to his room anyway.
Without knocking, they went straight in and saw Lu Yu shirtless, wiping the rain off his body with a towel.
"I made you some ginger soup, have some."
Lu Yu glanced at it and said, "No need, I'm fine."
"I discussed business with him, and we had a meal together out of politeness," Ji Meiqing explained.
Lu Yu ignored her explanation and said nothing at all. He took clothes out of the closet, and Ji Meiqing followed behind him.
“Nothing really happened between him and me.”
Lu Yu remained silent, quietly changing into new clothes and then taking off his shoes.
"You don't want to talk to me?" she asked in surprise.
Lu Yu frowned and denied it, "No."
"Then why don't you answer me?"
Lu Yu didn't know what to say, so he could only remain silent.
Ji Meiqing placed the soup in front of him, "Drink it, it will warm you up."
"I'm fine." He pushed her away.
The scalding soup splashed directly onto her hands, and Ji Meiqing remained silent for a moment.
“You still don’t believe me!” she shouted.
Lu Yu stopped.
"Now that I've married you, I certainly won't have any other thoughts." She placed the ginger soup on the table, then looked at Lu Yu. "He's just a guest. If you don't like him, you can simply stop associating with him! Why are you doing this?"
"Are we husband and wife?" He gave a bitter laugh. Besides the official documents from the government, what else did they have?
"How can we not be husband and wife?" she retorted angrily, "What kind of husband and wife do you want to be!"
Seeing that he didn't answer, she added, "I can't be that kind of virtuous and capable housewife!"
"You're fine as you are." Seeing her turn her back, Lu Yu calmly changed his pants.
