Chapter 330: Him in the Corner
Chapter 330: Him in the Corner
Chapter 330: The Man in the Corner
Turning to look at the tightly closed door, he knocked on it repeatedly, but there was no response. A terrible thought popped into his head: "Could something have happened inside?" Then he suddenly slapped his head and scolded himself for thinking such nonsense.
She spoke softly, but Li Shi still heard her. Li Shi frantically pushed Rouge aside and pounded on the door, saying, "Impossible, impossible! I know Ming'er best. He wouldn't do something like this." She cried as she spoke, and finally knelt down at the door, her hands gripping the door as she muttered, "Ming'er. Open the door... open the door... as long as you open the door, I'll agree to anything you ask."
Seeing Li's frenzied state, Rouge felt a pang of sorrow. She went over and helped Li, who was kneeling on the ground, to her feet. Looking at the closed door, she rammed it repeatedly, trying to break it open. Li heard the noise and saw Rouge's slender body pounding against the door, speechless. She began to regret her actions.
She didn't know how much time had passed before the door was finally kicked open. Ignoring her aches and pains, Rouge rushed inside to find Li Ming. Seeing the door open, Li Shi followed her in. Rouge saw broken wine jars on the floor, and several empty jars lying scattered about.
Rouge became very anxious upon seeing the broken wine jar, wondering if something had happened to Li Ming. She searched every corner of the room and finally spotted Li Ming in a small corner.
When Li arrived, she saw that the room was in a mess, and the broken pieces of the wine jar on the ground were particularly glaring.
But he didn't see Li Ming, and collapsed to the ground in despair.
Rouge looked at Li Ming lying in the corner. She hadn't seen him for many days, and he had lost a lot of weight. His face was so thin that it was unrecognizable. His face, which should have been round, was now sunken.
The veins on his arms were clearly visible where there was no flesh. Rouge knelt down and hugged Li Ming, finding his body terrifyingly cold, so she hugged him tighter. She wasn't sure if it was her own body heat or just a coincidence, but Li Ming stirred slightly, and Rouge quickly released him.
"Brother Li Ming, are you alright? Are you alright?" Yan Zhi looked at Li Ming's pale face and saw his eyes struggling to open, and felt a surge of joy in her heart. She hugged him tightly in her arms, tears streaming down her face. Seeing Li Ming in this state because of her filled her with indescribable sadness.
"Rouge, cough cough cough...you...you're here, I...cough cough cough...am I dreaming?" Li Ming said intermittently, coughing violently as he spoke. Rouge then realized that Li Ming was sick and hurriedly helped him up, saying, "Brother Li Ming, you're not dreaming, it really is me." She wiped away her tears as she spoke.
They helped Li Ming to the bed and laid him flat. Li Shi, who had been slumped on the floor, saw Li Ming and quickly got up to go to him. Seeing him lying safely in bed, her anxiety finally subsided.
Rouge tucked Li Ming in and made sure he was lying comfortably before heading to the kitchen. Li Shi followed Rouge as she left.
Seeing that Li Shi had followed her, Rouge turned around and said, "Auntie, Brother Li Ming might have caught a cold. I'll make him some ginger soup. Why don't you sit down and rest for a while?" After saying that, she walked towards the kitchen. Seeing Rouge like this, Li Shi felt a pang of shame as she watched Rouge leave. She turned around and went to Li Ming's room, tidying up the room little by little.
While tidying up the things scattered on the floor, she still occasionally walked to the bedside to look at Li Ming lying on the bed. Looking at his thin face, she felt a pang of heartache. She sat down by the bed and checked the temperature of his forehead, but a shiver ran down her spine. His forehead was icy cold, and at the same time, Li's beating heart instantly dropped to freezing point.
Rouge was busy in the kitchen. She was simmering ginger soup on one stove and cooking porridge on another. Occasionally the fire would go out, and Rouge would bend down and blow hard to make it reignite. Several times she choked on the smoke.
The ginger soup and porridge were ready. Rouge washed her hands, ladled out a bowl of ginger soup and a bowl of porridge, and went to Li Ming's room. As soon as she entered, she saw Li Ming sitting on the edge of the bed, staring blankly at Li Ming lying there. Rouge silently walked over, placed the things on a chair, and then gently moved them to the bedside.
She helped Li Ming sit up in bed and placed a pillow behind him so he could lean against it. Yan Zhi fed Li Ming some ginger soup, which he swallowed with difficulty, his eyes closed. Yan Zhi wiped the remaining ginger soup from his mouth and then fed him spoonfuls of porridge with sugar added beforehand.
Li's eyes never left Li Ming. She watched as Yan Zhi fed him, her gaze fixed on his tightly closed eyes, hoping he would open them and look at her. But she still didn't see Li Ming make the slightest movement.
After feeding Li Ming the porridge, Rouge touched his forehead and found it wasn't as cold as before. She happily laid Li Ming flat on the bed, gazing at his sleeping face, her eyes lingering. She got up, picked up the bowl, and looked back at Li Ming several times.
Suddenly realizing that Li was still in the room, she went to the kitchen somewhat awkwardly. She put down the empty bowl, found a clean bowl, ladled some porridge into it, added some pickled vegetables, and headed towards Li Ming's room.
Li remained seated, motionless. Rouge walked over, sat down beside her, and said, "Auntie, you must be tired after a long day. Have something to eat." As she spoke, she handed the porridge in her hand to her.
Looking at the porridge in Rouge's hand, then at Li Ming lying on the bed, Li shook her head and said, "You eat, you're quite tired too." As she spoke, she took out a handkerchief from her sleeve and wiped the dirt off Rouge's forehead. Rouge glanced at the dirt on the handkerchief and wiped her forehead somewhat embarrassedly.
Rouge shook her head and said, "There's still some in the kitchen, you should eat some." As she spoke, she freed one hand, grabbed Li's hand, and placed the porridge in her hand directly into Li's.
Li tried to deflect the question, saying, "If Brother Li Ming wakes up and sees you like this, he'll definitely regret waking up." Rouge said this while glancing at Li Ming lying beside her.
