Wine-scented Beauty

Chapter 189: Ambition

Chapter 189: Ambition

Chapter 189: Ambition

As night fell, a dark figure walked over from the other side of the road. He bypassed the guards and went straight inside. The distillery was so empty that you could hear things falling to the ground, and the sound was enough to give anyone goosebumps.

Suppressing his fear, he hurried to the warehouse. He found the wine that would be delivered to the restaurant the next day, then took a packet of medicine from his pocket and put it in.

After finishing, he left as if nothing had happened, and no one noticed anything amiss, not even the gatekeeper.

The next day, Ji Meiqing was still fast asleep. Dark red marks had spread all over her body. Lu Yu looked at his masterpiece and couldn't help but curl the corners of his lips into a smile.

It seemed like this time was going to drag on, but unfortunately someone was knocking hurriedly on the door, which startled Granny Mei and Ji Tianci next door.

Ji Meiqing also woke up, still looking a little tired.

"You get some sleep first, I'll take care of it," Lu Yu gently instructed. She obediently lay back down, and Lu Yu, seeing this, got out of bed, put on his clothes, and went to open the door.

The moment he stepped outside, his expression changed.

"What is it?" Lu Yu asked indifferently, looking at the servant dressed in front of him.

"Something's happened. I don't know what's wrong with the wine today. After the guests drank it, they all started having diarrhea. The restaurant is in complete chaos right now... You'd better go and take a look."

The servant finished speaking nervously and waited for his actions. Lu Yu's face also darkened. He turned to look at Ji Meiqing, who had also sat up and was putting on her clothes, her face showing a panic she had never seen before.

Lu Yu quickly went over and advised, "I'll handle this. You're too tired, you should rest first."

"I'm fine." She smiled, continued putting on her clothes, and then said, "This matter isn't as simple as you think, so we have to handle it properly. You have no experience, so you should come with me to take a look."

Lu Yu felt a pang of heartache, yet there was nothing he could do. Just as Ji Meiqing had said, he knew nothing about business matters; she had always taken it all upon herself, and all he could do was offer small token gestures.

Seeing his dejected look, Ji Meiqing took his hand and looked at him earnestly, saying, "Let's go first."

Looking into her eyes, Lu Yu could only agree and followed her there. When they arrived at the restaurant, seeing the mess in the lobby, a chill ran through them.

They slowly walked in. Lu Yu looked at her, feeling nervous, afraid that she might do something foolish.

Where is the wine that caused the accident?

she asked.

The servant went through the hall and brought back a wine jar. The jar had been opened, and only half of the wine remained.

The aroma of the liquor completely overpowered the other scents inside, making them undetectable. Ji Meiqing took it, and the next second the liquor was already on the shelf, ready to try it herself.

Fortunately, Lu Yu was there and stopped her from doing so.

"Don't drink this wine." He snatched it away and handed it to the servant beside him, then looked at Ji Meiqing with concern and asked, "What if this wine is poisoned?"

"Poisonous?" She squinted, then went behind the counter, took out a silver needle, and probed it. The silver needle hadn't turned black, meaning there was no poison inside.

"You see, it's not poisoned." She shook it, threw it on the table, and tried to snatch the wine jar. Lu Yu reacted quickly, grabbing it and throwing it on the ground. Now she wouldn't drink anymore.

He looked up and saw Ji Meiqing's shocked and puzzled gaze.

More and more people were crowding outside the door. Ji Meiqing looked at the situation behind her and was about to have someone close the door when a group of soldiers suddenly arrived, which was puzzling.

The group of people ran in in an orderly fashion, their swords pointed directly at them. Although they hadn't actually drawn them, their posture suggested that if they didn't tell the truth, a gleaming blade would be drawn and their heads severed in the next second.

"Who's the owner here!" The officer behind the soldiers walked over and shouted as soon as he entered. Even though he knew who they were, he still had to yell it out to put on a show.

Ji Meiqing stepped forward. "That's me."

"Guards, arrest him and take him back for trial at a later date!"

With a wave of his hand, the soldiers behind him surged forward. They rushed directly to Ji Meiqing, brandishing their knives in a chilling display.

Ji Meiqing was stunned for a moment, then immediately shouted, "Stop! All of you, stop!"

She even ran forward, trying to separate them. Seeing this, Lu Yu immediately pulled Ji Meiqing back.

"This can't get out of hand. I'll go with them. You go back and figure out a way to save me." She hurriedly explained her plan, then looked at Lu Yu anxiously.

The latter was taken aback. "We didn't do this, so why should we go with them?"

“The officers and soldiers are the most powerful here. If we don’t cooperate with them, we will be the ones who suffer. Besides, we don’t have any connections and we are in a weak position here.”

Ji Meiqing explained to him, and Lu Yu remained silent for a while. She walked directly in front of them, stretched out her hand, and said, word by word, "Arrest me, but don't implicate my family. They have nothing to do with this place."

"Arrest me." Lu Yu walked over, picked her up and placed her behind him. Looking at the adult, his eyes were filled with murderous intent. "I brew wine, and this is wine that caused the accident. You should arrest me."

They were originally about to fight each other, but now they came forward one by one to admit their mistakes, which really frightened the official.

"Your affection is so deep, I find it hard to bear." He wiped his eyes with his sleeve, then gave an order to put the man in shackles.

Before Ji Meiqing could react, she saw the shackles on his hands, and her eyes suddenly reddened. Lu Yu didn't look back when he was taken away, and he didn't look back even after he left. Ji Meiqing looked at the empty restaurant, feeling as if a knife had been cut into her heart.

"Boss..." The manager suddenly appeared out of nowhere; he had obviously witnessed what had just happened. He looked at his boss with concern, feeling somewhat reluctant.

"Let's tidy this place up properly." Having experienced life and death, Ji Meiqing naturally understood that things hadn't reached their worst point yet, and they could still turn things around. Therefore, she composed herself and left.

Lu Yu was taken to the prison. The snakes, insects, and rats on the ground were quite friendly; seeing someone coming, they simply made way and continued with their own business. Lu Yu found a corner, sat down, closed his eyes, and ignored everything.

The two jailers outside were quite surprised to see someone like him enter, and couldn't help but gossip.
