Chapter 113: Inspiration

Once they got home, Ji Meiqing immediately went into her room and buried herself in her work.

Lu Yu didn't know what had happened, but he resigned himself to going to the kitchen to prepare lunch.

Ji Meiqing had a sudden burst of inspiration, thinking of something. Although she hadn't graduated with a formal science degree, she still remembered the principles behind certain things.

She used a homemade charcoal pencil to sketch rough lines on the yellowed paper, and Ji Meiqing drew out the general idea she had in mind.

Lu Yu knocked on the door to ask her to come out for dinner. He saw her engrossed in her work at the table, her expression shifting between confusion and frustration before brightening up.

He approached and saw the strange things on the drawing paper, but he didn't know what they were. He looked at them carefully, and found that there were annotations next to them, some of which were truly breathtaking.

Although Lu Yu did not understand the underlying principles, he could figure out its function by imagining what it could do.

She was getting a little tired from drawing, so she rubbed her neck, which was also throbbing. As she looked up to stretch her neck, she suddenly saw Lu Yu, which startled her so much she almost dropped her pen.

"Brother Lu...is something the matter?"

She looked at him tremblingly. Lu Yu had long since snapped out of his reverie and calmly said, "It's already noon. The food is ready."

"Ah... wait a minute." She tidied up the things on the table, and then went out with him.

She didn't tell Lu Yu what she was doing. After quickly finishing her meal, she went back inside and finished the remaining parts of the drawing before carefully putting it into the drawing tube and placing it on the bookshelf.

The afternoon sun was shining brightly, and Lu Yu was sweeping the yard with a broom. She could see him as soon as she looked up.

The stories in the book were really uninteresting; she had never encountered such a poignant and dreamlike tale before, but the melodrama was no less than that of the novels she had read before.

Feeling a bit tired from looking at things, I picked up my pen again and started drawing on the paper. The paper we bought for our home was all smooth and flat Xuan paper, and I used the charcoal pencil to draw delicate lines on it.

As she looked at Lu Yu, she sketched his image on the paper.

The door was suddenly opened, and the old woman came in carrying a vegetable basket, then quietly put it down.

When the floral fabric was removed, she skillfully took out all the contents inside.

The once quiet courtyard was now completely bustling with activity. Ji Meiqing rested her chin on her hand, watching the little yellow chicks taking in this unfamiliar place.

"I bought two females, three males, and about a dozen smaller ones. It cost a total of seven taels. The larger chickens cost more, but they also gave me a lot of feed, so it was worth it." She smiled and handed the remaining silver to Lu Yu from her sleeve, then glanced at Ji Meiqing behind the window before walking over with a smile.

Ji Meiqing casually picked up a book from the side and used it to cover the things on the table.

"I saw a newly opened fabric shop there. If you have time, Madam, you might want to go and take a look."

"Hmm..." she smiled, "If I have time, I'll probably go."

"Then I'll go make a nest for them first. If you'd like to eat anything tonight, Madam, please let me know in advance."

Ji Meiqing smiled faintly and nodded, then watched her leave. Turning her gaze back, she happened to see Lu Yu also looking at her.

Although she had just gotten married, she was still a little unaccustomed to it at first. She quickly turned her head and took a red pen from the pen holder.

With a slight movement of the paintbrush on the paper, a warm red line appeared. Ji Meiqing was stunned and quickly switched to another paintbrush.

She couldn't draw anything on the paper anymore, so she washed her paintbrush in water and then put it on a brush holder to dry.

The red paint spread across the water. She seemed to have forgotten that there were still some things she hadn't taken care of. She looked out the window, but Lu Yu was no longer there.

She lowered her head and counted on her fingers; the date was probably tomorrow. She had almost forgotten about it these past few days; in fact, she simply didn't want to think about it.

To go or not to go, that was a difficult question, and she didn't know what to do for a moment. But since she had already agreed, she had to go.

But the Ji family... they finally escaped that place, and who knows what they'll encounter when they go back this time.

With a sense of helplessness, he organized his thoughts and then recited them fluently in front of Lu Yu.

Ji Meiqing was a little uneasy. She looked at Lu Yu and, seeing that he didn't speak for a long time, said again, "If you don't want to go, that's fine. I'll go and take a look by myself."

"Is there anything I need to prepare? Like bringing some wine over?" Lu Yu looked at her with a smile, a gaze that silenced Ji Meiqing.

"The Ji family members are all bad people. I'm afraid you'll get hurt."

"Suffering a loss is a blessing in disguise." He ruffled her hair, comforting her. "After all, it's like a son-in-law meeting his father-in-law. What should I prepare to bring?"

"No need, you don't need to bring anything. It's just dinner, nothing important." Ji Meiqing sighed, her face showing even more worry. Lu Yu didn't know how to comfort her, so he could only pull her into his arms and gently pat her back.

"I have everything."

"...Hmm." She still looked worried, showing no signs of relaxation.

Trembling with anxiety, Ji Meiqing led him to the Ji residence the following evening. When they reached the gate, they stopped, their palms sweating profusely.

She glanced at their clothes; they were both wearing old, patched, coarse linen garments, which wasn't a problem. They only had a wooden hairpin in their hair.

"Let's go." Lu Yu took her hand and walked forward. When they arrived at the gatekeeper, Lu Yu explained the situation.

Seeing how shabby they were, the man sneered, "This gate is not for you two. Go to the back."

"Yes."

Ji Meiqing wanted to lash out, but seeing Lu Yu's calm expression, she could only suppress it and glare at him.

The two went through the back gate and were then able to enter the Ji residence.

Ji Meiqing informed the receptionist and then led them to Madam Ji's courtyard.

"And who is this person next to the second young lady...?"

The old woman looked at Lu Yu with some suspicion. He was dressed in shabby clothes but had an extraordinary air about him, and he didn't look like an ordinary person.

Ji Meiqing simply mentioned, "Husband."

"So it's your son-in-law." She smiled enigmatically and didn't ask any further questions.

The two of them were led to Madam Ji's courtyard and then guided inside.

"Please wait a moment, my lady will be right there."

After she said that, she left the room. No one came up to serve her tea or water, and no one came to entertain them.

After looking around, Ji Meiqing stood next to Lu Yu.
