Chapter 341: The Saintess.
Chapter 341: The Saintess.
Mahiyan had no option but to operate the spell while Fortuna gripped his neck. Valerie looked at her with shock. She did not understand why the dragon queen did this.
The Knight said, "Your Majesty, I can’t cast a spell that would take us elsewhere. This is a one-way magical spell. The people in the north control it, and I only drew the final rune to complete the circle."
Fortuna gazed at him for a few seconds, and just when Valerian narrowed his gaze in impatience, she let go of the guy and said, "I will take your word for it then. Go ahead."
Mahiyan sighed and, after rubbing his sore neck, walked through the magic circle’s bright curtain. Valerian said, "If you cannot control your temper, go back to the Throne peak, where you can boss around everyone and anyone."
Fortuna glared at him, but Valerian did not budge. He was not afraid of her gaze or temper. He said, "I have had enough these past few days. I will not tolerate any bullshit that would hinder this. You also feel the same because it will help us understand what happened to them. I hope you can keep the bigger picture in your mind."
That said, he carried Valerie through the curtain of mana. Fortuna sighed, scratched the back of her head, and followed him while mumbling, "As if I don’t know things."
...
Valerian found himself standing on the ground covered with snow. He sensed the little girl in his arms shiver and channeled fire mana around them to stay warm. He looked at Mahiyan, and the man pointed at the sky. Valerian raised his head and found a chunk of rock floating in the sky.
He was surprised, but then he calmed down. Behind him, Fortuna appeared, and she said, "That place must have a nice view."
Valerian did not comment but looked around and found three mages wearing thick habits standing around the magic circle. Mahiyan was holding onto Calor and Haista. He said, "Fellow monks, you can stop the spell now."
The monks nodded, and they took back their mana. One of them said, "You all can follow me to the elevation platform."
The group nodded and followed the monk a few hundred meters. They were bought over to a stone platform. The monk said, "Please sit on the platform as I send you all up to the Haven."
The floating rock was called Haven. Valerian said, "It seems as if magic is prohibited in this region."
Fortuna sighed and said, "So much for being called smart. It is not magic, but flying is prohibited in this region. If it were magic, this platform would not have worked."
The monk who had bought them here heard this and smiled. He smiled and said, "None of you are wrong, but none of you is correct either."
Fortuna asked, "What do you mean?"
The monk smiled and said, "You can see a few birds flying above. However, a certain zone around the Haven is prohibited from mana and flying. This rock is a piece of the original Haven island, so it can fly over in the restricted zone if pushed over by a magic spell."
The people looked at the monk and then at the island with awe. Suddenly Valerian exclaimed, "I knew I read about this somewhere. This island is said to be a vessel Goddess Vita used to travel the world and remodel it."
The monk was surprised but then nodded. Fortuna clicked her tongue and said, "I know you are a bookworm. Now, can we please go ahead?"
The monk nodded and cast a potent wind spell to push the platform high in the sky. The platform ascended slowly, and the people saw a sea of mountains surrounding the place. Valerie said, "Big brother, this place is so beautiful. So peaceful."
Valerian nodded to her with a smile. Soon they reached the barrier, and the young man sensed the mana in his body coming to a stop. He could not channel his power through his body; the same happened to his battle aura. However, the platform elevated the sky.
Fortuna said, "This thing is levitating freely. I wonder how it manages not to crash into the core of this big rock."
Valerian said, "Look at the edges. Do you not see the runes engraved there?"
The people caught sight of the edges and found runes engraved at the place; now, they were glowing. Fortuna nodded and said, "Good eye."
Soon, the platform lodged with the island. The young man looked around and wanted to say something when he heard a rushed voice, "Sorry, I am late!"
The people turned to look at the source of the voice and found a girl slightly taller than Valerie running toward them. She was followed by three men with genial smiles on their faces. The little girl came and froze when she looked at Valerie, who was peeking at her with great interest.
One of the three men said, "May Vita be praised."
Valerian, Valerie, and Mahiyan replied with a greeting. The leader said, "Sir Mahiyan, you shall come with us. The prisoners will be taken to the holding cells. As for Knight Valerian, you can go to meet the Saintess. Nun Gaia will lead you."
The little girl nodded, and Valerian said thanks to the three. Gaia suddenly gazed at Fortuna and asked, "Who is this big sister? She is not a nun. How can she come here?"
The three men also noticed Fortuna, and Valerian said, "She is Fortuna, the queen of dragons. She is also here to visit the Saintess."
The three men were surprised and wanted to say something when Fortuna said, "I do not come bearing ill will. The Saintess has some information regarding the Tyrant. I need to ask her a few things before I attack him."
The men glanced at each other when a calm voice sounded, "Gaia, bring the guests over."
Gaia nodded and said, "Please follow me."
Valerian saw that Valerie was curious about this little girl and placed her on the ground. He said, "Nun Gaia, this is my sister, Valerie. She is not an official member of the order yet. I hope you can be patient with her."
He could tell that Nun Gaia was an adorable person who liked to be given responsibility. She looked at Valerie and asked, "Do you want to know about the order of the mercy?"
Valerie nodded, and Gaia smiled, "I will teach you. Come with me."
The little nun led a human and a dragon to the depth of the floating island, and they came to a garden. Valerian’s heart sounded like a horse rushing across the field. His hands were shivering, and his forehead was laced with sweat. Fortuna was surprised to see him this nervous. This was not the usual reality.
Valerian did not say anything and stood outside the garden. Nun Gaia said with a smile, "The saintess is inside."
Fortuna said, "How about you go in first, and I will talk to her later?"
Valerian cast her a gaze, and she patted his shoulder. He took a deep breath and nodded before he entered the place. The garden was surrounded by seven feet high shrubs arranged nicely to act like fences. So, he could not see what was happening inside when he passed the garden entrance.
He saw a lady standing with a watering can, looking after some of the plants in the garden. She was also carrying a small shearer. Valerian strolled, but his steps were heavy.
The lady stopped humming the song and turned around to look at Valerian. At first, she smiled and said, "May Vita be praised. You turned out to be such a handsome young ma...."
She opened her eyes wide and took a step back in shock. Her hands shivered as the water can fell from her hands and landed on the ground with a dull thud. She raised her empty hands to cover her mouth and said, "Divinus."
Valerian shook his head and, with a bitter smile, said, "Valerian. Valerian Divinus Magnus."
Misericordia opened her eyes and tears trickled down her eyes. She moved her feet and slowly approached the boy and touched his face. She was overwhelmed and embraced the boy as she mumbled, "Thanks Vita, thank goodness that you are safe my child."
She cried while holding him. Valerian held her back, sensing the familiar warmth that he received from Diligentia, Fragrantia, and Flos. Misericordia pulled him back and asked, "Is your mother alive?"
Valerian shook his head and said, "Sadly, she passed away after giving birth to me."
Misericordia sighed and mumbled a prayer. She said, "I never held any hope of your survival after I found out what had happened. I am sorry, I did not look for you."
Valerian shook his head and said, "Mother did not want me to live a life of luxury or comfort. So, it is fine that you did not appear to care for me."
Misericordia suddenly narrowed her gaze on a collar chain around Valerian’s neck and asked, "You cannot speak?"
Valerian nodded and revealed a mana stone in his hand. He was using this to activate the collar chains.
