Chapter 1099 - 1098: Breaking Free from Control

Chapter 1099 - 1098: Breaking Free from Control

This opportunity isn't about life or death, but whether Chu Chengrui dies by her hand or Chu Ge's hand.Although both aim to kill Chu Chengrui, to Chu Shiyao, the significance is vastly different.

"Clack"

Chu Shiyao placed the long surgical knife on the lab table, its snow-bright blade, thin as a cicada's wing, buzzing softly.

After her gaze lingered on the long surgical knife for two seconds, Chu Shiyao turned her eyes to Chu Ge and spoke, "Brother Chu, I hope you can ask him two more questions."

Chu Ge nodded.

"I want to know if he ever had relatives he truly cared for. Why he previously wanted to swap my heart for that sister I've never met – what was the reason behind it?"

Chu Ge sighed, a few traces of pity in those calm eyes, "Does it... matter? Perhaps some things are better left unanswered forever."

Chu Shiyao said nothing, but her firm gaze, coupled with an even stronger wave of spiritual power, gave Chu Ge the best answer.

Yes, it matters, it matters greatly, tremendously.

"I understand," Chu Ge smiled, the smile somewhat desolate, more like a silent sigh.

Chu Ge turned to look at Chu Chengrui, observing those hollow eyes, maintaining absolute suppression over his spiritual power, keeping him in a completely hypnotized state, repeating Chu Shiyao's first question with a precision-seeking approach.

"Relatives? Truly?" Chu Chengrui repeated these words, a hint of confusion in his hollow eyes, as if pondering what they meant.

"In the face of science, in the face of the biochemical revolution, things like relatives are insignificant; only the biochemical revolution deserves my devotion."

Though Chu Ge didn't look at Chu Shiyao, he clearly sensed the complex emotions emanating from her increasingly intense spiritual oscillations, emotions too intricate for words.

"Then why did you previously want to transplant Chu Shiyao's heart to her sister?"

"Because doing so would make Chu Mu more obedient; though he's not talented enough, he can execute every task I assign him more loyally."

Chu Chengrui's answer was decisive, and Chu Shiyao's heart spasmed violently, as though something inside was shattering.

"Couldn't you have felt any affection towards your other granddaughter? Are you... still human?"

Murderous intent!

As Chu Shiyao loosened her tightly clenched fist, picked up the long surgical knife from the lab table, and approached Chu Chengrui face-to-face, almost nose-to-nose, she asked the question in an icy flame-like tone, and Chu Ge felt an intense aura of murderous intent that couldn't be dissipated.

Meanwhile, Chu Shiyao's spiritual oscillations rose to another level.

Chu Ge could visibly "see" the light orb representing her spiritual power contracting sharply, nearly doubling compared to its calm state, and still expanding and contracting even more intensely.

Evidently, Chu Chengrui's merciless words deeply wounded Chu Shiyao's heart, utterly destroying her last shred of hope for Chu Chengrui, with ironclad facts indicating he's not human but a demon cloaked in human skin.

Chu Ge sighed inwardly again; he didn't want to ask such questions for Chu Shiyao earlier because he hoped to avoid such an outcome, yet Chu Chengrui could be ruthlessly cold to such an extent.

Suddenly, Chu Ge's brows furrowed because, within his perception, his suppression over Chu Chengrui's spiritual power was showing a hint of wavering.

It seems... Chu Shiyao's violently fluctuating spiritual power has somehow influenced Chu Chengrui!

That slight wavering in spiritual power suppression felt like the first crack appearing on a frozen lake in early spring, swiftly spreading like a spiderweb, followed by... fragmentation!

Simultaneously, the surgical knife tightly clenched in Chu Shiyao's right hand was raised high; under the light, it emitted even colder gleams.

"Die! You demon!"

Accompanied by a shout mixed with countless emotions, the knife held high in Chu Shiyao's right hand fell heavily, its target being Chu Chengrui's heart – cold and unfeeling, seemingly beating only for the so-called "biochemical revolution."

Thunk!

The sound of the blade piercing flesh echoed.

And yet, the extremely sharp surgical knife in Chu Shiyao's hand, after descending swiftly, surprisingly didn't penetrate further, nor pierced through that heart, uncertain whether cold or scorching.

Because a shriveled hand had already grasped Chu Shiyao's wrist holding the knife, then... instantly pulled this deeply embedded surgical knife out.

A blood arrow spurted out, staining Chu Shiyao's eyes, also staining her face, pale from prolonged lack of sunlight.

As the blood spurted before her eyes, engulfing her vision, the world in Chu Shiyao's sight suddenly turned a vivid crimson.

Through the eerie blood mist, Chu Chengrui's previously vacant, bewildered, lifeless eyes transformed in an instant, with pupils shrinking to the size of pinpoints!

At the same time, the mental connection between Chu Ge and Chu Chengrui was completely severed!

"Die!"

A furious roar resounded in Chu Shiyao's ears, and a searing pain erupted from her wrist as bone and flesh were tightly crushed, emitting a nerve-wracking creaking sound. The scalpel she intended to thrust forward slipped from her hand with a clang, and everything before her turned black as a fierce wind swept away.

Chu Chengrui's eyes were bloodshot and filled with ferocity. He gripped Chu Shiyao's wrist tightly with his left hand as his right hand clenched into a fist, swinging fiercely toward Chu Shiyao's temple.

Before the fist could reach her, the wind arrived first.

Chu Shiyao's hair danced in her ears, and the fist was only a hair's breadth from her left temple.

In a flash, Chu Ge yanked Chu Shiyao's arm with his left hand, and his right hand formed a palm strike, fiercely striking toward Chu Chengrui's wrist.

"Get lost!"

Accompanied by Chu Ge's icy voice, Chu Chengrui's punch ultimately missed its mark. Chu Ge's fingers brushed against Chu Chengrui's wrist, changing the direction of his fist, narrowly missing Chu Shiyao's head by a hair's width. Instead, it smashed into a metallic bracket on the lab bench, emitting a deep "thump."

All this happened within a mere second or two, just as Chu Ge realized a trace of loss of control in his hypnosis over Chu Chengrui. He sensed danger; if he hesitated for even a fraction of a second longer, it would have been too late.

In that instant, the various test tubes slotted into the lab bench vibrated violently, clinking together, while Chu Chengrui's fist indeed did more than just collide with a metal bracket; it plunged a full centimeter into it.

Without a doubt, this was a mighty and forceful punch. If it had struck Chu Shiyao's head, she would have met her end instantly with no chance of survival whatsoever.

Chu Shiyao was pulled to the side by Chu Ge. As Chu Chengrui withdrew his fist from the dented metal bracket, she turned around just in time to see the alarming dent on the metal bracket.

This... What kind of terrifying punch was this?

Chu Chengrui, wasn't he an elderly man nearing his seventies? How could he possibly possess such terrifying strength?

Chu Shiyao was stunned, momentarily forgetting her fear as she was utterly transfixed.

"Hurry, go!"

Before Chu Shiyao could snap out of it, Chu Ge's voice suddenly exploded in her ears. Then she felt a sudden force, causing her to stumble a few steps, then lose her footing, falling with her long hair standing on end.

Chu Shiyao landed on a blood-red cushion, her entire body sinking into it before bouncing back up with a thunderous "boom," like a clap of thunder ringing in her ears, but she felt no pain.

After a brief moment of dizziness, Chu Shiyao immediately realized something: after Chu Ge saved her from Chu Chengrui's punch, he pushed her into the escape passage.

"Thud!"

In a haze, yet another sound of fists colliding came from above Chu Shiyao's head.

"Brother Chu!"

Desperately trying to crawl up on the cushion, Chu Shiyao looked up through the light streaming in, only to see a metal ceiling and nothing else from her angle.

But even that sliver of light was slipping away from her.

The floor tile covering the entrance to the secret passage was returning to its original position. The light above Chu Shiyao's head diminished, decreased, until it vanished completely.

Click.

At last, that small floor tile fitted seamlessly into place, almost completely isolating the lab above and the escape passage below into two different worlds.

Darkness enveloped Chu Shiyao firmly. She sat on the still undulating cushion, biting her lip, her gaze still focused on where the light had disappeared, filled with devastating remorse and sorrow.

Even if she didn't know how Chu Ge's hypnosis worked, it seemed... perhaps it was because her emotions were too agitated, influencing Chu Ge or Chu Chengrui to some extent, allowing Chu Chengrui to awaken at the last moment, breaking free from Chu Ge's control.

Moreover, if she hadn't opted for that choice, but let Chu Ge manage everything, if only she had made up her mind a bit sooner, to silently and swiftly slash Chu Chengrui's throat, she and Chu Ge might have been able to escape this place unscathed.

Wasn't I supposed to protect Brother Chu this time? How could I... be so futile!

Staring intently into that darkness, longing to pierce through the stone slab, Chu Shiyao's heart was filled with incomparable self-blame. After a few seconds, she clenched her fists, exhaled heavily, her eyes filled with icy determination.
