Chapter 1056 - 1055: About Chu Zheng

Chapter 1056 - 1055: About Chu Zheng

"Actually, Chu Zheng is the son of Chu Chengrui, the former chairman of Tiancheng Pharmaceutical Group. His identity could truly be considered noble; what a remarkable second-generation wealthy kid. He never had to worry about food, clothing, housing, or transportation. His father earned enough money for him to squander through several lifetimes, as long as he didn't cause any major trouble—that background could easily smooth out anything.""Unfortunately... it seems this kid's brain got waterlogged since he was inside the womb. As a second-generation wealthy kid, he had no realization typical of one. Instead of enjoying a luxurious life, he was obsessed with studying biotechnology, always fantasizing about creating something that could benefit future generations, like a lunatic!"

"I met Chu Zheng at a secret research institute of the Chu Family. Everyone who could enter that institute was a leading figure in chemistry, medicine, biology, and more. Each person was a genius, or... perhaps one might also consider them mad."

"Chu Zheng and I were the heads of two research groups in different research fields. It was only a long time after knowing him that I learned he was actually Chu Chengrui's son. When I found out, I hardly believed it, thinking he was just boasting."

"Because apart from extreme arrogance, he didn't have any of the common traits of most second-generation wealthy kids. Even the arrogance could be considered a common trait among many researchers, since much of our research is seen by ordinary people as preposterous. Without a bit of arrogance, how would one believe that what they aim to accomplish is possible?"

As he spoke, Su Yuanke's face flashed with a sense of pride, then he sighed and pinched his brow hard, the pride turning into a sigh full of sadness.

Next, Su Yuanke narrated a lot more, summarizing the events of how Chu Zheng and Su Yuanke, during a discussion about a research topic, were inspired to propose a hypothesis that could significantly enhance biological functions, and began attempts to put this hypothesis into practice scientifically.

However, despite conducting a large number of experiments and achieving certain results, they ultimately had to abandon their research. No matter how they tried, the agents produced would always cause significant side effects on the test subjects, and eliminating these side effects was utterly impossible.

Ironically, long after, Chu Zheng discovered that at another Tiancheng Pharmaceutical research facility, the project which should have been terminated was still being pursued.

Although Chu Zheng had not seen the experiments being conducted firsthand, he happened upon some data quite accidentally. He was, after all, the true expert in that field and the initiator of the experiment, so he had no doubt about his judgment.

Upon making this discovery, Chu Zheng approached Chu Chengrui to explain the situation. Upon hearing it, Chu Chengrui flew into a rage and immediately fired everyone in the research department where the issue was uncovered.

Chu Zheng was dissatisfied with Chu Chengrui's actions, believing that the matter should be thoroughly investigated rather than simply dismissing those people from Tiancheng Pharmaceutical Group. However, Chu Chengrui felt that such actions were sufficient; making a public issue out of it would only bring harm with no benefit to the Tiancheng Pharmaceutical Group.

Chu Zheng and Chu Chengrui held opposing views and had quite the unpleasant fallout over this matter. Yet in company affairs, it was ultimately Chu Chengrui who held the decision-making power, and no matter how upset Chu Zheng was, he could do nothing about it.

Around the same time, Chu Zheng met a girl—Chu Shiyao's mother. However, Chu Chengrui was very displeased with the girl, and their disagreements over her further worsened their relationship.

Just as their relationship was coming to a freezing point, Chu Zheng encountered significant trouble in the research he was conducting.

Chu Chengrui demanded Chu Zheng leave the girl, otherwise, he would not receive another dime for his research funding. But Chu Zheng, determined to stay with the girl, escalated the argument and conflict, leading the father and son to thoroughly fall out, with Chu Zheng choosing to leave the Chu Family with the girl.

Shortly after Chu Zheng left the research institute and the Chu Family, Su Yuanke also left the institute due to some matters.

Neither Chu Zheng and his wife nor Su Yuanke had expected they would have any further entanglement with the terminated experiment. However, the reality was, one day someone approached Chu Zheng, demanding all data related to the experiment, showing signs of ill intent.

Latterly, there was Chu Zheng's call to Su Yuanke and the words he left for his daughter.

In Su Yuanke's view, there were only a few people who knew about the experiment, and if someone wanted those things and posed a threat to Chu Zheng and his wife's lives, the biggest suspect was indeed Chu Chengrui. Although this thought was harsh, faced with reality, he was forced to think so.

Filled with anxiety, Su Yuanke chose to leave the city he was in, finding a place to hide, as time passed, and then returning to his hometown in Gui City, only to quickly be found again.

Thus the subsequent events unfolded, all of which Chu Ge was either aware of or had experienced firsthand.

If Su Yuanke had any doubts before, upon witnessing the berserk behavior of those three individuals, he couldn't help but reminisce about the scenes when he and Chu Zheng experimented on small animals.

Su Yuanke grew increasingly sure that Chu Chengrui had continued their experiment, and had elevated it to live human subjects for significantly more stable and mature results.

After listening to everything Su Yuanke said, Chu Ge felt a headache. He had thought many matters could be resolved, yet it remained mired in fog.

Even if what Su Yuanke stated was likely true, and his deductions held validity, conjecture remained conjecture. No matter how suspicious Chu Chengrui was, it still didn't definitively prove the reality was as Su Yuanke thought.

Tiancheng Pharmaceutical Group indeed belonged to the Chu Family, yet it wasn't only Chu Chengrui within the expansive Chu Family.

It's critical to understand that in a large international group like this, internal relations are incredibly complex, involving many layers. Moreover, speaking just of Chu Chengrui's familial relations, he didn't only have Chu Zheng as a son.

Talking over these things, Chu Ge and Su Yuanke unwittingly arrived near the Gui City Cemetery, spotting the Jetta prepared by Su Yuanke's friend.

Surveying all around, finding nothing suspicious, having just experienced near-death events, Su Yuanke opted not to enter the cemetery, fearing bad omens. He simply bowed several times towards the ancestral site from the outside, then entered the inconspicuous Jetta.

Initially intending to drive away directly, now with Chu Ge alongside him, Su Yuanke decided to return Chu Ge to Gui City first before disappearing from his sight.

Walking under increasingly weighted shadows of the night, Chu Ge genuinely felt exhausted; he longed for a peaceful and simple life, yet his existence seemed like an unseen whirlpool, drawing him repeatedly into a spiral of convoluted matters.

He looked down at his hands, hands intended for mixing drinks and playing sports, yet they again and again wielded blades to end lives.

Though his hands were cleaned of every trace of blood, in Chu Ge's eyes, they appeared soaked red.

Could it be... someone like me is unworthy of a simple and peaceful life? Is it impossible to completely leave behind the chaos and conflict?

Chu Ge returned to the hotel, took the elevator to his room floor, and stood in front of his room's door with recurring questions on his mind.

Raising his hand, Chu Ge intended to knock, yet over a minute passed without his right hand descending.

Because he knew upon entering the room, he would need to concoct more lies to explain why he was returning late and why he changed clothes. If Qin Ruojing smelled the blood on him, it would require even more explanations—more masks.

Chu Ge was troubled; he no longer wanted to fabricate lies, yet if he told Qin Ruojing the truth, what purpose would it serve other than frightening her?

Staring at the door, lost in his thoughts, Chu Ge recalled the words Qin's mother advised him to leave Qin Ruojing, and the rebuttals he gave.

"If you truly love my daughter, shouldn't you consider her future? You said you couldn't guarantee such situations won't occur again. If you were injured, disabled, or died, what would happen to her? How could you be selfish?"

"Aunt, I'm not seeking to justify myself with excuses. I indeed admit I'm not wholly selfless, yet it doesn't mean I don't care about Qin Ruojing's well-being."

The assertive rebuttals emerging from him back then now seemed unable to convince himself. Was his decision to be with the sisters truly correct?

Chu Ge sighed, unable to alleviate the confusion and frustration within his heart. His drooping right hand, after being raised for over a minute, descended weakly.

Just as Chu Ge's arm fell, with his sigh barely complete, the door suddenly clicked open.
