Chapter 206 Challenge (1)
Chapter 206 Challenge (1)
The next morning, Mo finally woke up and immediately saw the corpse in the tree.
"Ah!!!" A loud shout startled the birds in the trees and the whole village.
The villagers gathered around, pointing and gossiping about the sorceress's corpse hanging in the tree.
Ms. Mo slumped to one side, her eyes filled with terror. She didn't know how to deal with this sudden situation.
Several brave villagers volunteered to lower the sorceress's body down, carefully untied the ropes, and laid the body flat on the ground.
The sorceress's distorted face and stiff limbs were chilling, and an aura of death seemed to linger around the corpse.
Gu Shijiu was awakened by the noise outside and slowly walked over.
She paused for a moment upon seeing the corpse, seemingly surprised: "This person's physical condition is too poor."
The barefoot doctor who had previously set Gu Shijiu's bones examined him briefly and shook his head at the village chief: "He's completely dead, there's no saving him."
Seeing Gu Shijiu's indifferent attitude, the village chief suddenly realized that the fortune teller might be right.
This is just like being possessed by an evil spirit; Li Fang wasn't like this before.
But the village chief dared not offend Gu Shijiu, and could only sigh inwardly. Fortunately, the world was in such a mess, otherwise officials might come to question him.
I just don't know if the people from this witch doctor's village will come looking for me, and what should I do if someone attacks me.
Gu Shijiu wasn't afraid. Did they think their village would fight with another village over something so trivial?
It's not time to fight over water yet.
He knew this sorceress; she was famous far and wide, and no young girl in several villages was unafraid of her.
The village chief knew a thing or two about her tricks. He hadn't found the one who had been hunting geese all day, but today the goose pecked at his eye. It was her own fault.
The village chief stood there, his brows furrowed, and after thinking for a long time, he finally spoke.
"First, carry the body to that abandoned thatched hut outside the village, and find some people to tidy her up a bit."
Although she committed many evil deeds during her lifetime, her death should not be treated too hastily, lest it give others grounds for criticism.
Several strong young villagers responded, then found a broken door panel, placed the sorceress's body on it, and carried it slowly out of the village.
The village chief, along with a few others, collected some old planks and tools from the village and headed towards the thatched hut.
Upon arriving at the thatched hut, the village chief directed everyone to begin piecing together the coffin.
Meanwhile, a villager whispered, "Village chief, how exactly did this sorceress die? Could something really strange have happened?"
The village chief glared at him and scolded, "Stop talking nonsense and get back to work."
After the coffin was put together, they placed the sorceress's body inside.
Then, everyone worked together to carry the coffin to an open space behind the thatched hut, where they dug a grave and buried it.
"Alright, no one should talk about this outside. That Mo family is too outrageous. Keep an eye on her in the future and don't let her cause any more trouble."
The village chief is now thoroughly fed up with the Mo family.
She used to be a kind and charitable person in the village, and the village chief's family also benefited from her kindness.
But now she has offended something unknown, and living in the village is a big problem. The village chief doesn't dare to let Gu Shijiu leave, so he can only blame it on Mo Shi.
Others shared his thoughts: "Village chief, this Fang girl—"
"Forget it, don't ask." The village chief was a bit bald. "As long as she doesn't attack anyone in our village, everyone should just ignore it."
As for the Mo family, she doesn't consider them one of her own.
Right now, she's hiding in her room, trembling with fear.
Mo's eyes were fixed on the doorway, as if Gu Shijiu would push it open and enter at any moment.
Her body trembled involuntarily, and her teeth chattered in her mouth.
The room was eerily quiet, with only her rapid breathing echoing in the air.
She tried to calm herself down, but the image of the shaman's lifeless face and Gu Shijiu's cold eyes kept flashing through her mind.
Every rustle of wind startled her. She wrapped herself tightly in the blanket, silently praying that it was all just a nightmare.
When she woke up, the sorceress was still standing there vividly, and the evil spirit possessing her daughter was unaware of the role she played.
In fact, Gu Shijiu had no intention of causing her any trouble. She acted as if nothing had happened and stepped out of the house.
Mr. Mo breathed a sigh of relief, but then began to worry.
We're out of food at home!!
Even the last bit of sweet potato was eaten.
There are more urgent matters to attend to.
The Mo family doesn't engage in any productive work, and Gu Shijiu is even less likely to farm. The family's fields have been neglected, and the weeds have grown as tall as a person!
Mo has not paid attention to these things at all recently, and today when she thought about it, she felt like the sky was about to fall.
She rushed to the villagers for help, but the villagers, who were usually very welcoming to her, had all changed their attitude and ignored her completely, let alone offer any assistance.
Mo was anxious and hungry, so she sat by the roadside and began to sob.
The crying was somewhat eerie, and the nearby villagers quickly tightened their windows.
Gu Shijiu is currently enjoying a delicious meal at the Zhang family's house.
After Gu Shijiu persuaded Zhang's four sons several times with reason, they became afraid of her.
They thought Gu Shijiu was shrewd and were afraid of offending her, so they treated her to good wine and meat every day.
The eldest son tirelessly went to town to select fine wines, the second son carefully selected fresh ingredients at the market, the third son busily prepared dishes in the kitchen, and the fourth son arranged the house in perfect order.
Every time Gu Shijiu came, the four of them served him carefully, observing his every word and expression.
They became anxious and uneasy at the slightest change in Gu Shijiu's expression, fearing that they had failed to provide adequate hospitality.
At this point in time, even officials can't control a ruthless bully like Gu Shijiu.
Zhang, on the other hand, found himself in a deep predicament.
All of this started because she went to freeload, and now the house is in complete chaos.
The sons dared not do anything to Gu Shijiu, so they vented their resentment on her.
The youngest son had no recollection of how much Zhang used to love him; he only knew how to complain.
"Mom, you're so foolish! You've gotten yourself into big trouble for trying to save a little money. I can't live like this anymore!"
The other sons echoed this sentiment.
The eldest son sighed, "Mother, why were you so reckless back then? Now the whole family is in turmoil."
The second son added, "That's right. You don't consider the consequences of your actions, and we live in constant fear."
The third son remained silent, but his face was full of dissatisfaction.
The daughters-in-law went even further.
The eldest daughter-in-law, hands on her hips, exclaimed, "Mother-in-law, you really know how to cause trouble! This jinx is making things expensive and causing no peace!"
The second daughter-in-law immediately chimed in, "Hmph, I thought you were good at managing the household, but you're always causing trouble and ruining the atmosphere at home."
The third and youngest sons, who were not yet married, sat to the side listening to their sisters-in-law complain about their elderly mother without intervening.
Standing there, listening to her children's scolding, Zhang's authority was completely shattered.
She was filled with regret and pain, thinking of how she had worked hard in the past, managing the household and working in the fields, but now she had become the target of everyone's criticism because of one mistake.
