Chapter 624 - 624 – The Cover Team’s Progress
Chapter 624 - 624 – The Cover Team’s Progress
Day 14 back in the Orange Archipelago. Light rain.It started raining lightly that morning, which was perfect for what they had planned. That would be at night, though. During the day, Reiji trained his Pokémon at the villa while Naoki and the others went to work as usual. Once everyone came back tonight, they would go scout the old district. That place only really woke up after dark.
After breakfast, Reiji released Magneton and Dugtrio in the villa courtyard. Both had awful aim. No surprise there. They had only evolved a couple of days ago and had not been properly trained yet.
He left aim training to Pelipper. Pelipper was great at hitting targets, and for this kind of basic training, learning from it was enough.
Pidgeot needed the same thing. It also had to work on aim, plus endurance.
Endurance would come naturally once it started carrying Reiji on longer flights, the same way Pelipper had. Its beak and claws needed training too. Those were Pidgeot's weapons, so he would pair the drills with ointment to sharpen the beak, strengthen the claws, and improve its grip.
Magmar's training was still the same: body-temperature control. If Flame Body needed to sit at a certain temperature, Magmar had to be able to make that happen.
Lucario was sparring with Poliwrath. Reiji watched the two of them bump fists with their eyes closed and had no idea what they were doing. Were they talking through aura? Did Poliwrath even have aura?
Swampert was doing weighted runs with Waterfall. First, it needed to build stamina. If it could run for a whole morning without stopping, that would be good enough for now. A hard battle usually lasted an hour at most, so a full morning of running was plenty. They could extend the time later.
Accelgor, Rhydon, Scyther, Gyarados, Toxicroak, and Golbat all had their own work too. Some ran. Some sparred. Some practiced combination attacks, sensing drills, or weighted training. Every Pokémon had a clear routine.
Once the Pokémon remembered their routines, they trained on their own whenever they had time. Reiji did not need to stand over them. Any Pokémon with a bit of ambition knew what it should be doing.
Weezing and Gengar were exceptions. One did not really need normal training, and the other was too simple-minded. It would do exactly what it was told, which sounded nice until no one was watching and something went wrong. It also smelled awful, so Reiji simply had Gengar take care of its training.
Dratini, Eevee, and Staryu were not training for now. Dratini and Eevee were still kids, and Staryu was recovering from its injury. Once Staryu healed, it would evolve. There was no need to rush it.
After setting up the Pokémon's training, Reiji went for a run himself. He had not run seriously in a while, but his stamina had not dropped. If anything, his body felt stronger than before. Humans in the Pokémon world really were built differently.
Ash could casually carry a Larvitar, and that thing weighed 72 kilograms. So yeah, nothing too shocking there.
After running for more than 2 hours, Reiji was drenched in sweat. He went to shower, then came back out and sat under the eaves to rest. He could take a short nap if he wanted, but Keith and Gulzar were still training hard in the courtyard, sweating buckets and not daring to slack off. Sometimes they even battled each other.
Reiji watched the two rookies peck at each other for a while, then got bored and took out Toxicroak's and Weezing's Poké Balls. He wanted to check how far they had come. Weezing had been growing fast. It just lacked real battle experience.
That was not a huge problem. As long as it listened, Reiji could handle the battle decisions. A Pokémon without much experience could still fight if it hit whatever he pointed at.

Reiji had not checked Weezing's panel for 2 months. Its level had already reached Advanced tier. That was fast. At this pace, it would not take long to reach quasi–Elite Four tier.
Its potential had risen by 0.4 too. That was already a good pace. It had probably eaten too much poison, especially Advanced-tier and quasi–Elite Four-tier poison sacs, which sped up its growth.
The abilities had not changed much: Levitate and Stench.
Reiji had left Weezing with Gengar in the storage room so it could learn to control the stink. Until it figured that out, letting it wander around was a nightmare.
Stench's proficiency was rising, which meant Weezing was getting better at controlling it. It was similar to Magmar learning to control Flame Body. To turn an ability on and off properly, the proficiency probably had to be above Advanced tier. Full control would likely require something close to Elite Four tier.
Its Poison-type moves were still far ahead of everything else. They had even gone past its level. That was probably from eating so much poison again. Honestly, Weezing seemed hooked. There was no way it was quitting poison now.
After training with Gengar for a while, Weezing had learned 3 new moves: Protect, Shadow Ball, and Fire Blast.
Fire Blast came from Rhydon. Weezing had seen Rhydon use it, and with Flamethrower as a base, it managed to pick it up.
There was not much else to check. Reiji had put Weezing together himself, so he knew it better than anyone. He closed the panel.
Weezing's level was still a little low. If it were already quasi–Elite Four tier, he could use it as one of the main fighters for tonight. Too bad.
Next, he opened Toxicroak's panel to see how it had grown.
[Toxicroak]
[Type: Poison + Fighting]
[Gender: Male]
[Potential: 66.99%]
[Level: 50.12%]
[Ability: Anticipation/47.68%][Hidden Ability: Poison Touch/46.88%]

Other: [(Bullet Punch/42.27%) (Rest/47.72%) (Ice Punch/34.52%) (Thunder Punch/34.62%) (Aerial Ace/21.37%)]
He had not checked Toxicroak's panel for more than a month either. Toxicroak was level 50 now. With Toxicroak's poison and burst power, fighting 2 opponents at once should not be a problem.
Its potential had grown during this time too. If it kept rising at this rate, reaching the seventies was possible.
For Toxicroak, a potential in the seventies would be enough. It could go higher, but that needed two things.
First, more time.
Second, patience Reiji might not have.
Anticipation was growing steadily. Toxicroak's sense for danger was getting sharper, especially when an opponent was about to use a finishing move.
Poison Touch had already been suppressed and was no longer a problem. The mutated poison sac had instead given Toxicroak a huge boost. Even without carrying Gems, both its potential and level were climbing fast. And it still had Fighting Gems on top of that.
The Poison-type moves were no longer rising as wildly as before, which was good. They still stayed close behind its level, giving Toxicroak no room to relax.
Toxicroak had learned quite a few new moves recently too. When it was not training, it was learning.
It learned Gunk Shot from battling Weezing.
Earthquake and Dig came from Kingler.
Swords Dance came from Kingler too.
After checking the panel, Reiji was satisfied. Nothing strange had happened. Toxicroak was still growing steadily.
Toxicroak had good talent to begin with, and most of that talent was tied to Poison-type power. With poison like this, it could beat opponents a full tier above it if things went well.
That poison was the real problem.
Right now, only Weezing and Gengar could take Toxicroak's poison.
