Chapter 619: Reap What You Sow
Chapter 619: Reap What You Sow
Gu Lingshan had no idea what Li Qingyan was thinking. He truly thought of himself as handsome and charismatic. In fact, many vain women were already mesmerized by him, deeply attracted. Plenty of them were jealous, wondering why Gu Lingshan had approached Li Qingyan instead of them.
However, a single sentence shattered this strange atmosphere.
"I’m not interested."
After speaking, Li Qingyan walked around Gu Lingshan and continued toward Yang Qi.
For a moment, Gu Lingshan was frozen in place, his face flushed crimson with embarrassment. He never expected to be rejected. A woman who wasn’t interested in him? This was the first time he had taken the initiative to express interest in a woman; all the others had come and gone at his beck and call.
How could this be happening? To be rejected in front of so many people—how was he supposed to save face? He was the host of tonight’s cocktail party, after all.
The pianist was so startled that he stopped playing. Without the music, Gu Lingshan’s awkwardness intensified. He felt as if he had been slapped hard across the face in front of everyone, a truly unbearable sensation.
Bitch! he roared inwardly, but for fear of losing even more face, he maintained a gentlemanly facade. The angrier he appeared, the more humiliating it would be. He took a deep breath and stared coldly at Li Qingyan’s retreating back, swearing to himself that he would make her sing "Conquest" for him in bed tonight.
"Rejected?" At that moment, Gu Baiyi appeared beside Gu Lingshan. He signaled for the music to resume, then asked with a smile, "You haven’t experienced this before, have you? Need your grand-uncle to help?"
Gu Lingshan took another deep breath. "Help me, Grand-uncle. I’ll stop at nothing to get that woman!"
Just then, his expression turned ugly. Li Qingyan had refused to have a drink with him, only to walk over to Yang Qi, a man he looked down upon.
"I’m exhausted, and you didn’t even think to help me," Li Qingyan complained.
"You know I’m not good at socializing," Yang Qi said, taking a sip of his drink. "But I took care of those handsy men for you."
"No wonder. I was thinking it was strange those guys would suddenly be so kind as to give up their chance," Li Qingyan said. Although she didn’t know how Yang Qi did it, she already saw him as a godlike figure. Even she, who had been unable to feel anything, was cured by him. What couldn’t Yang Qi do?
"Alright, I won’t disturb your peace any longer, or those people’s glares might just kill you." Li Qingyan sat for a moment, finishing her glass of juice with Yang Qi, and then went to attend to her duties. Qifei Group needed many partners and connections to grow. While they hadn’t organized this party, it was still an opportunity they could use.
Gu Lingshan felt like he had figured it out. So he’s just Li Qingyan’s driver. That had to be why Li Qingyan had gone over to Yang Qi. He certainly didn’t believe she was actually interested in the man. A driver who dares to drink alcohol? He must be insane.
Gu Lingshan failed to notice that Li Qingyan hadn’t touched any alcohol, only juice. If Yang Qi couldn’t drive, Li Qingyan certainly could.
"Grand-uncle, help me take care of someone!" he said, turning his head abruptly toward Gu Baiyi.
"Just a driver. Is that really necessary?" Gu Baiyi asked with a frown.
"Of course, it’s necessary. I want that guy to make a fool of himself in front of everyone," Gu Lingshan said.
"No problem. I’ll make him bark like a dog in front of the whole crowd," Gu Baiyi laughed. For him, it was a piece of cake—just two needles would do the trick.
The two of them walked toward Yang Qi.
"I didn’t realize you were President Li’s driver," Gu Lingshan said with a beaming smile. "I apologize for any prior offense. I’d like to propose a toast." His face was wreathed in smiles, making it seem as if he genuinely wanted to mend fences.
Yang Qi smiled and raised his glass. "Cheers."
But just as he lifted his glass, Gu Baiyi moved behind him and pricked two Silver Needles into his acupoints.
Yang Qi frowned slightly, then his expression returned to normal. Holding his glass, he downed the drink in one go.
No one noticed the flicker of mockery in his eyes. Playing these games with me is courting death.
Gu Lingshan and Gu Baiyi exchanged a look and smiled, signaling that their plan had succeeded.
A short while later, Gu Lingshan suddenly walked onto the stage, took the microphone, and announced, "Ladies and gentlemen, I’ve just met a new friend who would like to perform a special act for all of you. Let’s quiet down and give him our attention!"
At his command, the spotlight swung onto Yang Qi.
At that moment, Gu Lingshan was supremely smug. Li Qingyan, oh Li Qingyan, since you won’t give me face, I’ll make your driver humiliate himself! I’ll show you what happens when you disrespect me!
Gu Baiyi also sat down nearby, waiting for the show he had orchestrated to begin.
Yang Qi smiled. "Young Master Gu, you truly flatter me. When it comes to performing, how could I possibly compare to you? Why don’t you perform ’A Yellow Dog Urinating’ for us, and then bark twice?"
Hearing this, both Gu Lingshan and Gu Baiyi frowned. They thought their conversation had been private, not realizing that Yang Qi had heard every word. Naturally, he intended to return the favor in kind.
Li Qingyan was also stunned. Why would Yang Qi suddenly say something like that?
"What do you think you’re doing, daring to cause a scene at a party like this!"
"Exactly! Just do what Young Master Gu tells you. What’s with all the nonsense?"
"He’s honoring you by asking you to bark like a dog!"
Although many of Thunder City’s bosses were in attendance, most of them didn’t recognize Yang Qi. Otherwise, they wouldn’t have dared to speak to him that way.
But just as they were chastising Yang Qi, Gu Lingshan began to shout from the stage.
"WOOF WOOF!"
Not only did he bark, but he also struck the pose of a urinating dog.
"Lingshan, what are you doing!" Gu Baiyi panicked.
For a moment, he couldn’t grasp what was happening. Why would Gu Lingshan suddenly make such a foolish gesture? He was utterly bewildered.
He scrambled onto the stage and pricked Gu Lingshan with a needle, bringing him back to his senses.
"What did I just do?" Gu Lingshan could remember what happened, but he couldn’t believe he had actually done it. He felt like he was going insane.
"Young Master Gu just performed ’A Yellow Dog Urinating’ for us and even barked like a dog. It was truly splendid!" Yang Qi said, even starting to applaud.
The other guests suppressed their laughter, not daring to react, but their stomachs were aching from the effort.
Gu Lingshan’s face cycled through shades of livid and ashen before finally settling on a ferocious scowl. Though no one was laughing out loud, it was as if he could see everyone mocking him, applauding his humiliation, and sneering.
Damn it!
He clenched his fists so tightly that they bled, veins bulging on his skin. He was truly on the verge of exploding.
