Chapter 515 [Empire] An Ordinary Day
Sunlight streamed through the gaps in the curtains onto the bed, warm but not blinding. It was the scent of morning light, gently waking me from my slumber. The moment I opened my eyes, my head still felt slightly heavy, the fatigue of yesterday still lingering, but the warmth of the sun was a sure reminder that a new day had begun.
I stretched and sat up, feeling the air around me still slightly chilly, but it was no longer uncomfortable. Instead, it felt refreshing and invigorating. I looked out the window, still seeing the same icy landscape. The atmosphere of the entire planet was harsh and cold, but thanks to the sunlight, I felt a slight warmth.
"Today is just another ordinary day." I said to myself and chuckled.
These past few days, the intensity and tasks of training seemed to have slowed. The instructors' instructions were becoming less frequent, replaced by a series of general logistics courses. This kind of course, for me, was simply too simple. The members of the special abilities class seemed relatively calm. No one had undergone any significant changes, nor had their equipment been adjusted. It seemed they had long since grown accustomed to this "empty" routine. The other classes, on the other hand, seemed much more relaxed, especially those who had once been heavily equipped. Today, they could almost be described as "lightly equipped." Most of their equipment was gone, and some were even discussing whether to use this time to improve their personal life skills rather than simply prepare for combat.
This reminded me of those days spent out in the field. While the training was arduous and the missions varied, at least every day felt filled with purpose and action. But now, facing this gradually relaxing atmosphere, I'm feeling a bit uncomfortable. My long-dormant supernatural powers feel like they've been bound, never truly released. These leisurely classes have almost made me forget my former identity—a mercenary who has faced far more dangers.
I put on my clothes and walked to the mirror. My face looked a little tired, but I still maintained my usual toughness. I took a deep breath and walked out of the room. When I met Qianmo, he was looking down at his equipment. This quiet boy, as always, gave people a sense of peace.
"Good morning." I nodded at him, my voice calm.
Qianmo raised his head and looked at me, with a faint smile on his face: "Good morning, are you ready to face today's challenge?"
I shrugged. "It's not really a challenge." Then I looked at the other students around me. Their faces also looked stress-free, as if they were enjoying the moment. "It's just class."
"Yeah, it seems there's no need to use my superpowers today." He said softly, a barely perceptible worry flashed in his eyes, but he quickly concealed it.
I nodded, and couldn't help but think of the green seedlings in my backpack, the transparent young vines still quietly dormant. My abilities were closely connected to these plants, and when they stopped responding, I always felt like something was missing.
As everyone gradually gathered, we headed to the classroom. The air was filled with the fresh scent of the school, and occasionally students would whisper to each other, discussing the day's class schedule. Unlike the usual solemnity and tension, the atmosphere today was unusually peaceful, even a touch of laziness.
When I walked into the classroom, the students were already seated neatly at their desks, waiting for the instructor to arrive. However, today's instructor didn't rush to start. Instead, he briefly explained the course content and then let everyone use their time to organize simple homework and practice life skills.
I glanced around and saw many students in the class chatting casually. Some even pulled out their pre-prepared reading materials, seemingly unfazed by this seemingly boring class. I, head still bowed, sorting my gear, thought to myself that perhaps in this quiet time, I could find some relief, at least from the constantly draining tasks and training.
But after a while, the instructor suddenly announced a mission - this was not the relaxing time I expected, but an opportunity to go to the surrounding areas for field exercises.
"You will face a real environment and carry out a mission." The instructor's words made the air tense. "Are you ready?"
I couldn't help but raise an eyebrow. This was the rhythm I was familiar with.
