Chapter 403 [Empire] The End of Waiting
Chapter 403 [Empire] The End of Waiting
Time slipped away as I waited, the entire night seemingly shrouded in an invisible silence. The light and shadow gate hovered silently before my eyes, flickering faintly from time to time, but never changing. Shan Qi remained calm, making almost no unnecessary movements, as if awaiting some inevitable moment.
I looked at him, feeling a wave of silent fatigue. I clearly wanted to understand the secret behind this door, but at this moment, I suddenly wondered if there was any specific pattern to the "timing" Shan Qi mentioned. Was he just saying "wait for the right time" to appease me?
At this moment, my stomach growled. Apparently, the wait was a bit too long, and even I was starting to get impatient. To kill time, I decided to grab something to eat. I grabbed some ham, mashed potatoes, and toast, and while I ate, I wondered if I should crack a joke with Shan Qi to lighten the mood. After all, Shan Qi's focused expression always made the oppressive silence a little unbearable for me.
I took a bite of toast, swallowed it, and couldn't help but smile: "It seems that 'timing' is something that makes people wait a little impatiently. Maybe we can wait until tomorrow, or even next month, who knows?" I deliberately stretched out my tone with a hint of joking.
Shan Qi still didn't turn around, his eyes fixed on the door of light and shadow. "You don't understand." His voice remained calm, yet with a barely perceptible depth. "Timing isn't something you can rush. It has its own rules and trajectories. The more anxious you are, the less likely it is to appear."
"So, you're saying we have to wait quietly like trees?" I asked back provocatively, but at the same time I couldn't help rolling my eyes, silently complaining about this almost philosophical waiting.
Shan Qi didn't answer me, instead silently continuing to stare at the door of light and shadow. Silence once again enveloped the room. I gnawed at the food in my hand, feeling a sense of emptiness. At this moment, even the taste of the food seemed to fade. With each bite, I felt my patience gradually wear thin.
"You know," I coughed lightly, trying to break the silence, "I really don't like this kind of uncertain waiting, especially when it makes me feel like a fool."
Shan Qi finally turned his head, his eyes expressionless, as if my words hadn't affected him at all. His gaze was so deep, as if he could see through everything, that it made me nervous.
"You may not like it," he said calmly, "but you have no choice." He looked at the door, "Sometimes, the thing we least want to face is exactly what we have to go through."
I froze for a moment, suddenly realizing his words weren't simply comforting, but rather a serious warning. Indeed, we're now in a completely uncontrollable situation. No matter what we do, the Light and Shadow Gate won't change. The timing seems to have nothing to do with us.
Time passed relentlessly once again, until the first rays of dawn quietly shone into the room. With that ray of light, the atmosphere in the room shifted subtly. In that instant, I suddenly sensed a subtle shift in the light and shadow door. Its outline grew clearer, its glow less hazy. A strange sense of fluctuation grew stronger, and the air seemed filled with a tense energy.
I noticed this almost immediately and couldn't help but whisper, "Shan Qi, the door seems to be a little different."
Shan Qi remained expressionless. He slowly stood up and walked towards the light and shadow door. At that moment, I suddenly felt as if the opportunity had quietly arrived at this moment.
"This is the right time." Shan Qi's voice was deep and powerful. "Now, we can finally touch it."
My heartbeat quickened, my eyes closely following Shan Qi's steps, and I felt an unprecedented tension enveloping the surroundings. It wasn't until the light and shadow door completely opened that I realized that the end of waiting might also mean the beginning of something new.
