Chapter 41 Rescue
Chapter 41 Rescue
Time flew by and it was already the ninth day of the eighth lunar month.
The autumn imperial examinations officially began, and there were three sessions in total, held on the 9th, 12th, and 15th of the eighth lunar month.
During this time, Lin Qin and Xiao Siyue stayed at the inn until the last exam was over. Xiao Siyue took Lin Qin to the street to buy some gifts for her family. "Mom, what gifts should we bring for Grandpa and Grandma?" Xiao Siyue was a little troubled; she had a bit of decision-making difficulties.
"Well, why don't we go buy some for Grandma and Auntie first? As for Grandpa, we can take your dad to look for some tomorrow." Lin Qin stroked Xiao Siyue's little head and said after thinking for a while. She didn't know either and was afraid of buying something that wouldn't suit her taste.
"Okay, Mother, let's go then." Xiao Siyue thought about it and agreed; let the man choose the gift.
"Let's go," the two said excitedly as they headed to the most famous jewelry shop in Qinzhou.
When she came out again, her hands were full of jewelry.
"Mom, all the jewelry here is so beautiful!" Xiao Siyue said excitedly. Indeed, shopping is the happiest moment for every woman.
"Yes, it truly lives up to its reputation as the best jewelry shop in Qinzhou, though the prices are a bit high." Lin Qin was also very happy, unable to suppress her smile.
"Mother, it's alright, as long as we're happy." Xiao Siyue wasn't that reluctant. Money is earned, not saved. Can't you just earn more when it's gone? Besides, they hadn't spent that much.
"That's right." Lin Qin felt that her daughter was right. She looked at the things in her hands and was indeed very happy.
The two walked back happily. Although they were carrying many things, their steps were lighter.
"Mother, look!" In order to get back as soon as possible, they went through the alley next to them, which led directly to the inn. However, they were stopped by a person sitting against the wall in front of them as soon as they reached the middle of the alley.
When the two approached, they realized that the man was an elderly woman in her sixties with her eyes closed, her face pale, one hand hanging limply to the ground, and the other hand clutching her chest; she was clearly unconscious.
Looking at the scene, Xiao Siyue guessed that the person might have a heart condition, but she didn't know why he would faint here. Judging from his clothes, he was not an ordinary person and should have servants. Why was he here alone?
What to do? Should I save her? Will it cause any trouble? Xiao Siyue was conflicted.
Forget it, she couldn't just stand by and watch someone die, and her heart condition couldn't be delayed.
"Mother, wait here. I'll go to the clinic to find someone to come here." Xiao Siyue handed the things in her hand to Lin Qin and ran away.
"Yue'er, be careful!" Lin Qin shouted as she watched Xiao Siyue run away. There were hardly any people around, so she could only wait on the side.
"Doctor, my grandfather has collapsed in the alley ahead. My mother and I can't lift him. Could you come with me to take a look?" Xiao Siyue ran into the clinic, panting, and said to the doctor inside, her face full of anxiety.
Seeing Xiao Siyue's anxiety, the doctor knew the situation was serious and dared not delay. He quickly instructed a young apprentice in the shop to stay and watch the shop, while he took the other two disciples and followed Xiao Siyue out.
The group hurried into the alley.
"Yue'er, you're back?" Lin Qin saw Xiao Siyue return and pulled her around to look her over. After Xiao Siyue left, she couldn't help but regret letting a child go alone. She wanted to chase after her, but she couldn't abandon the unconscious old man. Now that she saw her return, she felt relieved.
"Doctor, how is my grandfather?"
Upon hearing Xiao Siyue's words, Lin Qin glanced at her in surprise, but remained silent.
The doctor said with a grave expression, "It's quite serious, but thankfully the treatment was timely and his life has been saved. Let's take him to the clinic first; it's not convenient to treat him here."
"You two hurry up and carry him, be careful," the doctor instructed.
Upon hearing this, Xiao Siyue and Lin Qin quickly followed.
Xiao Siyue thought to herself that it was a good thing she hadn't wasted any time, otherwise she would have been dead.
Half an hour later, the old man slowly opened his eyes and looked around.
"I'm not dead!" the old man murmured.
“No, you’re still alive,” Xiao Siyue replied.
"Who's speaking?" The old man looked toward the voice and saw a delicate and lovely little girl smiling and talking to him.
"It's me, Grandpa! You're finally awake!" Xiao Siyue said happily. She had been waiting here for half an hour. Lin Qin had returned to the inn a quarter of an hour earlier, afraid that Xiao Qinian would worry.
"Here, have a glass of water first," Xiao Siyue said, pouring a glass of water and handing it to the old man.
"Did you save me?" The old man looked at Xiao Siyue kindly. When he passed through the alley earlier, he suddenly suffered a heart attack and hurriedly tried to find the pills he was carrying, but he couldn't find them anywhere. In the end, he could only slowly fall down in despair. At that moment, he thought he might really die. He regretted not taking anyone with him when he went out, and he also regretted walking through this remote alley.
"Yes, I only found a doctor for you; I don't know how to treat illnesses," Xiao Siyue said truthfully.
"You saved me, too. If you hadn't found a doctor, I probably would be dead." The old man looked at the child before him, a sense of gratitude rising in his heart. His expression was serious and composed, revealing a wisdom that had come from years of experience.
"Oh," Xiao Siyue replied indifferently. She wanted to go back; her parents were still waiting for her at the inn.
"Little girl, what's your name? How old are you?" the old man asked kindly.
"My name is Xiao Siyue, and I'm five years old. What about you?" Xiao Siyue replied. Although she still had some doubts and worries, she didn't hide anything from the kind old man in front of her.
“Oh? My name is Shen Junru, and I’m 61 years old,” the old man answered Xiao Siyue in a serious tone. He found the child rather amusing, like a clever little monkey.
"Little girl, your grandfather is awake?" The doctor saw Shen Junru sitting on the bed as soon as he entered the room, and his face lit up with surprise. He quickly asked.
Xiao Siyue glanced at Shen Junru, who was smiling, and secretly breathed a sigh of relief. She then thanked the doctor, saying, "Yes, thank you, doctor." She looked at the doctor gratefully.
"You're welcome," the doctor smiled gently, then turned to Shen Junru and said, "Your granddaughter is such a filial child! She worried you so much today."
Shen Junru looked at Xiao Siyue with affection and softly echoed, "Yes, she is a filial child."
The doctor nodded and continued, "Your heart condition is difficult to cure completely. You need to take better care of your health in the future and avoid overworking yourself. Also, remember to carry emergency medication with you when you go out, just in case."
Shen Junru nodded solemnly and replied earnestly, "Yes, doctor, I've got it all. I'll definitely pay extra attention to these things in the future." He secretly resolved never to act so foolishly again.
The doctor nodded in satisfaction and told them they could leave. Then, he turned and hurried away, busying himself with other patients.
