Chapter 708 - 708: Togekiss In A Rage
Chapter 708 - 708: Togekiss In A Rage
"That's... a Ceruledge!"Gary recognized the Pokémon that Togekiss had just defeated.
After defeating the Ceruledge, Togekiss did not give up the attack and was preparing to strike again. A pink ball of light condensed in front of its mouth—Moonblast.
"What's going on? Where is its Trainer?" Gary asked urgently.
The Ceruledge had already been defeated. If Togekiss attacked it again, it could suffer fatal injuries.
But no one in the room seemed to care. An infrared beam shot out from the side of the field, hitting the Ceruledge and recalling it into its Poké Ball..
Boom!!
Moonblast slammed into the ground where Ceruledge had been standing, blasting out a crater more than two meters wide and a meter deep.
"Hiss... What a powerful Togekiss. Even after all this time, it still has this much strength..." Friede said, visibly shaken.
Gary was stunned.
Listening to Friede's words, Togekiss must have been locked up here for a long time—probably several hours.
"Toge!!"
Without an opponent, the enraged Togekiss screamed and flew around wildly, trying to find a new target. Its expression looked especially ferocious.
Gary looked at Togekiss rioting on the screen, puzzled as to why it was behaving like this.
What exactly was Exceed Company researching that could drive a Champion-level Pokémon into a frenzy?
"Mr. Cervantis, this Togekiss is too strong. Even my strongest Pokémon isn't a match for it." At that moment, a well-dressed young man walked in.
The boy wore suit pants and a fitted shirt. His hair was split down the middle—gray on one side, darker on the other—cut to chin length. It looked somewhat like the hairstyle of a young Takuya Kimura.
"Amethio!" Gary recognized his identity and immediately became more alert.
Gary wasn't very familiar with the plot of the Horizons anime, but he was certain of one thing: Amethio was not a good person.
In episode 1, Amethio had appeared and attempted to snatch the pendant of the heroine Liko—which was actually Terapagos.
Since Amethio would try to grab Liko's pendant, he must have already known that the pendant was Terapagos. And now Amethio was showing up here at Exceed Company, meaning there had to be a connection between the two. It was quite possible that Exceed Company itself was a villain organization.
But Gary didn't know the later plot yet, so he couldn't be certain whether Amethio was good or bad at this point. The later the anime went, the more it liked to redeem its villains.
That trend had basically started in the sixth generation—for example, Alain, who started out with Team Flare but ultimately ended up helping Ash.
Even Lusamine of the Alola Region's Aether Foundation was originally the true mastermind behind everything. In the end, she was redeemed too, and she even established the Alola League, becoming its first director.
Gary didn't know whether Amethio was good or bad right now, but it wasn't his business. All he needed to do was get Togekiss back.
"Even your Pokémon isn't a match for this Togekiss? It seems we'll have to ask the chairman to arrange another Trainer," Cervantis said.
Amethio's face showed clear dissatisfaction, but there was nothing he could do. His strongest Pokémon had been defeated, and he had no choice but to ask others for help.
"Mr. Cervantis, Togekiss is my Pokémon. Let me defeat it," Gary suggested.
Everyone in the room looked at Gary.
They had been racking their brains over how to deal with Togekiss, and none of them had expected Togekiss's Trainer to show up. Although it was suspicious, Gary had come in with Cervantis, so his identity was presumably trustworthy.
"What?! Togekiss is your Pokémon? Are you from the company?!" Amethio said in surprise.
Amethio was an executive of the Explorers, and he knew very well that there weren't many powerful Trainers within the company. The company also wouldn't specifically recruit outside Trainers.
In this world, Trainers held a status similar to soldiers. To any major organization, Trainers who hadn't been trained internally were considered unreliable. This was true of every organization.
Team Rocket and other villain organizations also trained their own members and would never fully trust those recruited from the outside.
For example, Giovanni would sooner trust Jessie, James, and Meowth than a Rocket executive brought in from outside.
"No. Mr. Gary was just traveling through the Paldea region. His Pokémon wandered here by accident, and he came looking for it," Cervantis explained.
Amethio's eyes immediately turned wary. After all, the timing of Togekiss's appearance was too coincidental. Of all the times it could have shown up, it happened to be right now.
That made him wonder whether Gary had actually come here specifically for Exceed Company's research results.
Cervantis turned to Gary with a serious expression. "Mr. Gary, you may help, but you must promise me one thing. Otherwise, I can't agree to let you stop Togekiss."
"What do you want me to promise?"
"After you defeat Togekiss, please do not recall it. Once we've recovered what Togekiss is holding, then you may recall it. And I hope, Mr. Gary, that you'll stay out of that process, as it involves our company's research results," Cervantis said.
"Alright. I promise you," Gary agreed.
Gary wasn't very interested in the affairs of Paldea, so this wasn't something he needed to concern himself with. He'd leave it to that little girl Liko to deal with.
"Friede, take Mr. Gary in," Cervantis said.
"Right."
Friede immediately led Gary to the venue where Togekiss was being contained. After entering the password, the entrance to the venue opened.
"Gary, be careful," Friede reminded him.
"Don't worry. Togekiss is my Pokémon. I can handle it." Gary walked into the passage without any hesitation.
Back in the monitoring room, Cervantis, Amethio, and the others stared at the surveillance footage.
"I want to see what Pokémon he'll send out to defeat Togekiss," Amethio said quietly.
Amethio's ace Pokémon had just been defeated by Togekiss, and defeated easily at that. That alone showed that this Togekiss was no ordinary powerhouse.
"Toge!"
The violent Togekiss noticed someone entering and immediately rushed toward Gary.
"That's bad!"
"Why didn't Gary send out a Pokémon?!"
Cervantis was stunned. He'd thought Gary would release his Pokémon outside first and then enter the field with it.
But Gary had gone in alone, without a Pokémon at his side. If something happened to Gary, it would be difficult to explain.
