Chapter 7 The Yun Family's Eldest Daughter Is Someone Else
Chapter 7 The Yun Family's Eldest Daughter Is Someone Else
"What kind of behavior is this, making such a racket?" came the old lady's sharp voice from inside the house.
Yun Juan heard that the voice was full of energy, not like someone who had just woken up. A girl who looked like Yun Juan came out of the room. Judging from her attire, she didn't look like a maid, but rather like a young lady from a wealthy family raised in seclusion.
Sure enough, Yun Lin and Wei Wan's expressions changed after the girl came out.
"Mother, has my brother returned too?" The girl smiled sweetly.
Dressed in a plain brocade dress and wearing a jade hairpin, she stood in front of Yun Juan, and compared to Yun Juan, she actually looked more like a young lady.
Wei Wan and Yun Lin ignored her, but the girl wasn't angry. She continued, "This must be my elder sister, right? Yunrong greets you, elder sister. You must be tired after just returning. Grandmother misses you terribly and often talks about you to me!"
Looking at her mother Wei Wan and brother Yun Lin, who seemed hesitant to speak, Yun Quan realized that quite a few things had happened since she went to the manor. She then raised an eyebrow at her brother Yun Lin and silently said: "Aren't you going to explain?"
"Yunrong is the adopted daughter that your father brought back from outside after you were sent to the estate. Your mother was depressed, and he said he would raise her under your mother's name as if you were still alive." As Yunlin said this, Wei Wan's tears fell.
Her own daughter was sent to the countryside to fend for herself, and she wanted to treat someone else's daughter as her own. Wasn't that cruel to her? How could she accept it?
Later, the old lady intervened and felt that since Yunrong had been brought back, she was a pitiful child, so she was included in the family genealogy, named Yunrong, and replaced Yunquan as the legitimate daughter of the Prime Minister's mansion.
The old lady has doted on Yunrong over the years. She doesn't listen to anyone else, but she can take Yunrong's words to heart.
Yun Quan thought it was a joke. Did they think she was still alive? Then why didn't they leave her behind? They were just maintaining their hypocritical facade.
Yun Juan gave them a reassuring look and followed Yun Rong to the old lady's room. As soon as they entered, they saw an elderly woman, over fifty years old, lying on her side on the couch.
Although she is over fifty, her face is well-maintained and does not show her actual age; only her white hair subtly reveals her age.
"Come, Rong'er, sit next to your grandmother." The old lady pulled Yun Rong, who was standing beside her, over with a loving expression, a stark contrast to her expression when she saw Yun Juan.
"Grandmother, my sister is still here." Yunrong smiled a little shyly. "Grandmother, my sister is still standing!"
Only after Yun Rong's reminder did the old lady slightly raise her eyelids and give Yun Juan a look: "Now that you're back, you should stay in the Yun family obediently and wait to find a good family to marry into."
Yun Juan couldn't help but laugh out loud when she heard this.
"What kind of behavior is this? You have no manners at all!" The old lady couldn't help but scold.
Yun Quan wanted to laugh even more when she heard this: "What a 'no manners'! I was abandoned on the estate when I was a child. Of course I was born of a mother but not taught by a father."
Yun Quan's words made the old lady so angry that she sat up straight and pointed at Yun Quan: "You...."
"What do you mean, 'you'? Am I wrong? Or is it that you can't accept it just because I'm telling the truth? And what about finding a good family for me to marry into? What, now that I'm grown up, you're all planning to sell me for a good price to work for the Prime Minister's mansion?"
The old lady seemed to have her secret exposed; she was so angry that her face turned red, and she couldn't utter a complete sentence while pointing at Yun Juan. She was barely breathing.
"Grandmother, Grandmother, are you alright? Sister, how could you say such a thing?" Yunrong said, helping the old lady catch her breath while scolding Yun Juan.
"Put away your hypocritical masks. I am not a member of the Yun family, so stop trying to intimidate me with the Yun family name. Stop your scheming; I know your little tricks better than anyone else."
Yun Juan didn't even glance at the old lady behind her, and left the old lady's room directly. Behind her came Yun Rong's anxious voice, as if the old lady had fainted from anger.
As soon as Yun Juan stepped outside, she saw her eldest brother, Yun Lin, pacing anxiously in the courtyard with her mother, Wei Wan.
As soon as she stepped out, two people quickly came to greet her: "How was it? Did Grandmother give you any trouble?"
Yun Juan looked at them helplessly: "Why are you all so worried? Do you think they want to make things difficult for me? They're too naive! Do you think I'd let them manipulate me?"
Yunlin laughed when he heard this. The hearty laughter outside the courtyard contrasted sharply with the anxious voices of the servants inside the house when the old lady fainted.
When Yun Ting arrived after receiving news that his mother had fainted, he saw this scene and immediately became furious.
"Your grandmother fainted from anger, and you still have the mind to chat here? Are you all planning a rebellion?" Yun Ting was so angry that his face turned red, and he raised his hand to slap her.
But Yun Juan grabbed him: "Prime Minister Yun, the old lady didn't faint because of me. What does it have to do with me if she faints because of her poor health? Besides, the thing you should do when the old lady faints is call a doctor, not lecture me here."
Yun Ting reluctantly put down his hand and hurriedly walked into the house, while Yun Juan pulled her mother and brother away from Haolan Courtyard.
Because the mansion was in complete chaos, Yun Juan didn't have her own courtyard and could only live with her mother, Wei Wan, in her mother's Tingyu Pavilion. Despite being the Prime Minister's wife, she lived in the worst courtyard.
When Yun Juan followed her mother into Tingyu Pavilion, she was startled. Good heavens, this place was probably not even a third the size of the old lady's Haolan Courtyard.
It truly lives up to its name, Listening to the Rain Pavilion. It's so dilapidated that you can actually hear the rain falling, and you might even get caught in the rain yourself.
Seeing the slight surprise on her daughter Yun Juan's face, Wei Wan felt a little embarrassed: "Juan'er, I'm sorry to have made you laugh. For now, you and your mother will have to stay here temporarily."
The guilt on Wei Wan's face made Yun Juan feel terrible: "Mother, it's okay. Home is wherever you are."
Yunlin looked at his sister and mother, a smile he couldn't hide on his face. Suddenly, as if remembering something, a trace of sadness appeared on his face.
My second brother would be so happy to see his sister come back if he could still stand up! I must tell him this good news later!
Actually, Yun Juan wanted to know more about Yun Rong and wanted to go home, but the position of the eldest daughter of the Yun family had already been taken by someone else. What did the Yun family want to do by bringing her back?
Don't tell her that you remembered there was another legitimate daughter on the estate and wanted to acknowledge her back; Yun Juan didn't believe it!
Wei Wan clearly knew what Yun Juan wanted to ask: "Sit down first, I'll tell you slowly. This matter... Lin'er, go make your sister a pot of tea, she must be thirsty after all this time."
Wei Wan sent Yun Lin away because she felt it was better for her to handle the matter herself; otherwise, given Yun Lin's fiercely protective nature towards his sister, he probably would have torn the Yun family apart.
