Chapter 231: Deep into the Enemy's Lair, Perilous Situation
Zhang Peng gazed at the eerie cave before him, took a deep breath, and turned to look at Wang Yongli and his disciples. His expression was solemn yet resolute: "This journey will undoubtedly be fraught with danger, but we bear the hopes of the entire cultivation world on our shoulders, and we must not back down. Everyone must proceed with caution and follow my instructions."
Everyone nodded, their eyes gleaming with determination. They gripped their weapons tightly, spiritual energy gathering at their fingertips, ready for the impending battle. Zhang Peng was the first to step into the cave. He activated the Chaos Spiritual Technique to its fullest extent, and five-colored spiritual energy formed an indestructible shield around him, illuminating the dark passage ahead.
The cave was dark and damp, with eerie glows flickering on the walls. The ground was uneven, and a chilling wind could be heard from time to time. Zhang Peng and the others proceeded cautiously, taking each step with extreme care, afraid of triggering any hidden mechanisms.
"Master, there seems to be a mysterious force in this cave interfering with our spiritual energy perception," a disciple said in a low voice, frowning.
Zhang Peng nodded slightly, his expression wary: "Everyone, stay alert. This could very well be a trap set by the enemy. If we encounter danger, don't panic, look out for each other."
No sooner had the words been spoken than a sharp whistling sound came from ahead, and dozens of black arrows shot out from the dark holes on both sides of the cave wall, carrying a fierce momentum as they flew towards the group.
"Watch out!" Zhang Peng shouted, quickly unleashing a defensive move from the Chaos Spirit Technique, forming a five-colored spiritual energy barrier in front of everyone. The arrows struck the barrier, producing a series of clanging sounds and scattering sparks, but fortunately, they were all blocked.
"Hmph, a mere trick!" Zhang Peng sneered and led the group forward. However, they hadn't gone far when another huge stone gate appeared ahead, covered with mysterious runes and radiating powerful spiritual energy.
"There must be something hidden behind this stone door, everyone be careful." Zhang Peng said, stepping forward to try and find a way to open the stone door. The moment his hand touched the stone door, the runes suddenly shone brightly, and a powerful force blasted him away.
"Patriarch!" Wang Yongli and his disciples exclaimed in surprise upon seeing this, and quickly stepped forward to help Zhang Peng up.
Zhang Peng wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth, a flash of anger in his eyes: "This stone gate is protected by a powerful restriction. It seems the enemy anticipated our arrival."
Just as everyone was at a loss, suddenly, a wild laugh came from the depths of the cave: "Hahahaha, Zhang Peng, you really came. But this is your burial ground!"
Upon hearing this, Zhang Peng's expression changed drastically. He recognized Cao Long's voice. "Cao Long, you traitor, today is your death day!" Zhang Peng roared angrily.
"Death? It's probably your death!" Cao Long's voice rang out again. Immediately afterward, the stone door slowly opened, and a dense aura of darkness rushed out. Cao Long emerged from behind the stone door with a group of men in black, a ferocious smile on his face and a crazed glint in his eyes.
"Zhang Peng, long time no see. I didn't expect you to find this place. But do you think you can defeat me with just a few of you?" Cao Long looked at Zhang Peng coldly, his eyes full of disdain.
Zhang Peng sneered, "Cao Long, you've sided with a mysterious force and become its accomplice. Today, I will bring you to justice and rid the cultivation world of this scourge!"
As soon as he finished speaking, Zhang Peng launched the first attack. He unleashed the killing move of the Chaos Spirit Technique, a multicolored sword aura carrying a world-destroying force, shooting towards Cao Long. Cao Long's expression changed slightly, and he quickly cast a dark spell, forming a black shield in front of him to block Zhang Peng's attack.
Two loud bangs rang out as the sword energy struck the shield, the powerful impact forcing Cao Long back several steps. A hint of surprise flashed in his eyes: "I didn't expect your strength to have improved again, but this is still not enough!"
Cao Long shouted, and the men in black behind him instantly scattered, surrounding Zhang Peng and the others. They unleashed various dark spells—black flames, poisonous mist, and sharp blades—assailing Zhang Peng and his companions relentlessly.
Zhang Peng, Wang Yongli, and the others reacted swiftly, unleashing their respective spells and engaging in a fierce battle with the men in black. For a moment, the cave was filled with flashing magical light and deafening shouts of battle.
During the battle, Zhang Peng discovered that while these men in black were not as strong as him and Wang Yongli, their teamwork was excellent, and their spells were unpredictable and difficult to defend against. More importantly, the mysterious power within the cave seemed to be constantly providing them with spiritual energy, making their attacks increasingly fierce.
"This won't do. We must find a way to break through their defenses and find the source of the mysterious power inside the cave," Zhang Peng shouted to Wang Yongli while fending off the attacks from the men in black.
Wang Yongli nodded and said, "Patriarch, I'll go and hold Cao Long back. You go find the source of the mysterious power!"
Having said that, Wang Yongli unleashed the ultimate technique of the Qingyun Sect and charged towards Cao Long. Upon seeing this, Cao Long sneered, "You think you can stop me?" He swung his black staff and engaged Wang Yongli in battle.
Taking advantage of this opportunity, Zhang Peng unleashed his full power, broke through the encirclement of the men in black, and rushed into the depths of the cave.
