Apocalypse: Transmigrated General's Daughter Uses Space to Survive

Chapter 613: A Hidden Hand Behind the Storm

Chapter 613: A Hidden Hand Behind the Storm

"You think we are the only ones? There are more like us. Stronger ones. When they finally come out, you will be done for." The zombie replied smugly but the flash of fear in its eyes didn’t escape Ye Xuan.

"There is indeed more to this. Put it away. We won’t get anything out of it now."

Seeing its reaction, Ye Xuan knew that no matter what they did, they wouldn’t get any information from its mouth.

Besides, it was a zombie and couldn’t feel pain. So, they couldn’t even torture it.

It was a waste of time to ask it so many questions.

Blood pooled between the cracks of the concrete floor, slowly seeping into the ground. The stench of decay mixed with fresh death lingered in the air, but none of the people present showed any discomfort.

They had long grown used to it.

What unsettled them now... was something else entirely.

As they prepared to leave, Chu Miao’s gaze lingered briefly in the dark corner of the underground.

Her intuition told her that something had been watching them but it had already left.

Her eyes narrowed slightly.

"It seems...we’re not the only hunters anymore." She said to herself.

"There’s something behind all this." Ye Xuan , who was standing close to Chu Miao said after hearing her comment.

"But what could it be?" Jing Xian asked, frowning.

"A stronger zombie?" Chu Hao suggested.

"Or something else entirely..." Qi Long added.

Chu Miao didn’t answer immediately.

Instead, she closed her eyes.

Her divine sense spread out once again, sweeping through every inch of the underground parking lot.

She didn’t find anything, but that unsettled her even more.

She wasn’t afraid of facing these zombies, however, there were many weaker human survivors.

If they met such an ambush, how many could survive?

"It left." Chu Miao finally said.

"Whatever was watching us during the battle is gone."

That statement sent a chill down everyone’s spine.

"Watching?" Li Pan asked softly.

"You mean there was something else here?"

Chu Miao nodded.

"I didn’t notice it at first. But during the fight, there was a moment when I felt another presence here. It was very faint and subtle, obviously hiding and didn’t want to be found."

"Stronger than these zombies?" Murong Yi asked.

"Yes." Ye Xuan answered before Chu Miao could.

His expression was cold. He had felt the presence too.

"It’s not just stronger. It’s smarter too and knows how to hide in plain sight." Ye Xuan added.

The atmosphere instantly turned heavy after those words.

If what they were saying was true...then this entire group of intelligent zombies might just be...

Pawns.

"Then we really can’t waste time." Chu Hao said, his usual playful tone completely gone.

"Let’s take the ones we caught back and get some answers."

"Mm." Chu Miao nodded.

"Move."

Within minutes, the group left the underground parking lot.

Chu Miao didn’t teleport them immediately.

Instead, they moved a short distance away from the mall first.

"Why not teleport directly?" Li Kun asked, with a confused look on his face.

Chu Miao glanced back at the mall. Her brows furrowed.

"Just in case. Teleportation leaves spatial fluctuations."

She didn’t want to take the risk of exposing the sect to something dangerous.

"If something really is watching us, I don’t want it tracking us back so easily."

Her caution made everyone nod in agreement.

Only after putting enough distance between themselves and the mall did she finally act.

"Hold on."

As everyone gathered together and held onto each other. Chu Miao then waved her hand and the space around them twisted.

In the next second, they disappeared.

When they reappeared, they were already inside the sect.

The contrast was immediate.

The violent winds outside were completely blocked by the protective barrier, leaving the inside calm and peaceful.

It felt like stepping into another world.

"We’re back." Chu Hao exhaled.

Even for him, being out there felt oppressive.

"Take the zombies to the lab." Chu Miao instructed as she handed over the ring with the zombies to Qi Long.

"Yes boss." Qi Long took the space ring and headed towards the building with a laboratory in it.

Inside the laboratory, the moment Professor Wu and the others saw the captured intelligent zombies their eyes lit up like they had just seen treasure.

"You actually brought them back alive?!" Professor Tang almost shouted.

"Four of them... no... five?!" Professor Song’s voice trembled with excitement.

"This is incredible!"

Even Professor Wu, who was usually calm, couldn’t hide his shock.

"You’ve done something extraordinary."

Qi Long didn’t know how to reply to their enthusiasm and just remained quiet for a moment.

However, he finally decided to speak directly.

"They’re not the main problem."

The professors paused.

"What do you mean?" Professor Wu asked seriously.

Qi Long’s expression turned solemn.

"These zombies are being organized. It seems that there is something even more intelligent behind them."

The atmosphere in the lab changed instantly and the excitement faded, replaced by tension.

"Are you certain?" Professor Wu asked.

"Yes." Qi Long replied, taking a step towards the zombies, now held in cages

"I can’t say I saw it, but both Miss Chu and Boss Xuan felt it. With their strength, they couldn’t have been mistaken." He added cautiously.

."If that’s the case...Then these subjects are even more important." Professor Song said solemnly.

"We need to find out how they evolved... and what’s influencing them." Professor Wu added.

"Yes. Miss Chu said she wanted the results as soon as possible." Qi Long emphasized.

"We’ll do everything we can." Professor Tang said immediately.

"That’s good." Qi Long said before turning to leave.

He had only taken a couple of steps when he seemed to remember something.

"Also... be careful. These ones aren’t like the others. They can think."

The professors nodded seriously.

They understood the risk.

After leaving the lab, Qi Long went to find the others in the apartment to report.

The atmosphere was noticeably heavier than before.

"So... what now?" Chu Hao asked, sitting down.

Chu Miao didn’t answer immediately.

Instead, she walked to the window and stood there looking outside.

Even though the storm had temporarily stopped, she knew it would return.

Twenty hours of chaos and four hours of false peace.

"These zombies are taking advantage of the storm to grow stronger. They attack when the four hour window opens and attack small bases and survivor camps. This way, they get a lot of prey." She finally analyzed the situation as she understood.

"If we sit back and wait, they will grow too strong for us to handle." Ye Xuan said thoughtfully.

"Yes. So, we have to strike first." Chu Miao added looking like she was ready for war.

"What’s the plan?" Murong Yi asked.

"We will do what we did today. Hunt them. See where they hide." Chu Miao replied.

The others felt their blood boil when they saw this.

It was indeed time to take action. If the zombies could use the storm, so could they.

"Sounds good to me." Chu Hao grinned.

"Don’t get careless." Chu Miao warned.

"We won’t be. Don’t worry." Gu Fan said with a smile.

This was precisely why they had been cultivating so diligently.

Now they could finally put their skills to good use.

That night, far from the parking lot where the battle had taken place and the sect, inside an office building that was surrounded by weeds and mutated plants, a pair of glowing eyes opened.

"Interesting..."

A low voice echoed.

"They’re stronger than expected."

Around it, several figures knelt silently with their heads lowered.

All were intelligent zombies with clearly more strength and intelligence than the ones Chu Miao and her team had faced before.

"Should we eliminate them?" one of them asked respectfully.

The glowing eyes flickered.

"No."

A faint smile appeared in the darkness.

"Let them grow."

"They will become... excellent nourishment. When that time comes, I will take everything from them."

The eyes slowly closed again.

As if returning to slumber.

But the faint pressure it left behind...

Was far beyond anything Chu Miao and the others had faced so far.

If Chu Miao was there, she would realize that among the zombies, something extremely strong had awakened.

The four-hour window of calm passed faster than anyone expected.

A faint whistle in the distance could be heard as the wind came back.

It returned like a raging beast that had been unleashed.

From the windows of the apartment, everyone could see the sky turn murky again as dust, debris, and broken fragments of the city were swept into the air.

The storm was back.

"Right on time." Chu Hao muttered, folding his arms as he watched a piece of roofing fly past the building like a feather.

"Twenty hours of this every day..." Li Kun sighed. "No wonder the ordinary survivors can barely step out."

"This is clearly suppressing humans. How are the weaker ones going to survive?" Grandpa Chu asked sadly.

It was obvious that this was another wave of weeding out the weak survivors
