Chapter 611: Underground Battle
Chapter 611: Underground Battle
A full-blown battle erupted instantly.
However, Chu Miao and her teammates soon realized that unlike before when the zombies would keep attacking no matter how many were eliminated, these ones had learned to retreat strategically.
They would attack and when overwhelmed by the opponent, they would retreat to regroup.
"If all the zombies in the world become like this, then there will truly be no place for humans anymore." Gu Fan commented as the sword in his hand cleaved a zombie into two.
"That’s true. These zombies are evolving everyday and learning human habits along the way. Now we can at least tell the evolved ones apart from humans because of their skin color, eyes, the rotten stench that won’t go away. But what if that disappears too?" Chu Hao muttered while also dealing with two of the evolved zombies that tried to flunk him on both sides.
"Let’s just get rid of these ones first. We will decide which approach to take later once we go back." Chu Miao said and at the same time, the spiritual energy within her erupted in a way that could crush rocks.
Boom!!!
The ground in the underground parking lot cracked and the whole building trembled.
However, Chu Miao knew her limits and didn’t let the building itself be affected.
For a building that had withstood so many disasters and was still standing tall, it must have been of good quality.
Such structures must be preserved to help the people who survive the apocalypse rebuild their lives.
So, she had no intention of ruining the building.
Even so, debris and dust flew into the air.
If they were ordinary humans using their eyes to see the enemy, this would have caused a disadvantage.
However, in this battle, both sides didn’t need to rely on their eyes to see.
As cultivators, Chu Miao and her teammates could sense other creatures and every tiny action without much effort.
As for zombies, they never had the ability to see even before evolving and relied on their smell, sensitivity to noise, and movement.
So, they didn’t need to see their opponents when they fought.
However, the pressure Chu Miao exhibited when she erupted forced the weaker zombies to retreat involuntarily.
The leading zombie seemed to realize that they had bitten more than they could chew and shouted for the others to retreat while it also prepared to leave the battle.
However, how could Chu Miao let it have its way?
Her figure flickered and disappeared from where she stood.
The next second, she appeared directly in front of it.
Her palm descended like a mountain on the zombie.
Bang!
The zombie barely managed to raise its other arm to block the attack but under the absolute suppression of her strength, its bones shattered with a sickening sound.
Without complete bones, the zombie couldn’t stand and run anymore.
Chu Miao didn’t want to waste time on it, so she condensed her spiritual power and pierced into its head, pulling out a crystal core.
Unlike the dull ones from low-level zombies, this one shimmered faintly with a strange light.
Just like the ones she had brought back from Russia.
"Why are the cores of these intelligent zombies so different from the rest?" She asked absent-mindedly.
She stored it away without hesitation and turned to look at the other intelligent zombies.
Once their leader was killed, they froze for a moment as if they didn’t know what to do next.
It seems that just like how humans would fall into chaos and start running around like headless chickens when they lost a leader, the zombies were the same.
Now, it seemed that the intelligence zombies had developed wasn’t exactly a good thing. Because now they had a weakness.
And it seemed they could even feel fear judging by how the intelligent zombies that remained retreated secretly when their leader fell.
However, Ye Xuan didn’t give them the chance to gather their wits as he shouted to the others.
"Attack now."
As soon as his words fell, attacks came from different directions, all aimed at the intelligent zombies at the front.
Some attacks forced the mindless ones at the back to retreat.
But most of the attacks concentrated on the intelligent zombies.
One intelligent zombie after another was sent flying, their bodies crashing into walls and pillars.
Chu Hao seemed to be enjoying the battle as he cornered one zombie and threw punch after punch as if he was venting.
Chu Miao didn’t bother with him and simply charged at other zombies.
But to her surprise, the zombies were not completely thrown into chaos.
The intelligent zombies seemed to react after a few of them were taken out and they retreated quickly, pushing forward the mindless ones to block the attacks for them.
"They even know how to find shields now." Chu Miao commented as she observed their behavior.
She wanted to learn everything she could from them and share it with the researchers in the sect.
If they wanted to completely eliminate zombies from the world, they had to not only know how to kill them, but also understand them.
As she observed, she noticed that the zombies that had retreated to the back had started launching long-range attacks using abilities.
After everything she had witnessed, this didn’t surprise her too much but it still opened her eyes to how quickly the zombies could adapt.
Once they realized that close combat was disadvantageous to them, they stretched the distance between them and attacked from far.
Before, zombies couldn’t do this.
Chu Miao felt that she had learned enough and the others had also managed to stretch their bones and stabilize their realm.
So, she decided to end the battle.
The pressure around her body multiplied and the spiritual energy even carried a trace of immortal Qi.
Even though it was only a small trace, it made her attacks deadlier.
The zombies attacking from the back seemed to sense danger and one of the leaders growled loudly.
