Chapter 36 Meeting
Chapter 36 Meeting
In the conference room, the two sides of the long table were clearly defined.
Li Rui naturally sat down in the main seat, leaned back in the chair, crossed his legs, and tapped his fingers lightly on the armrest.
Qin Xue sat down to his right, her back straight, her hands resting flat on her knees, her icy blue eyes staring straight ahead without making any unnecessary movements.
Just as Qin Shuang was about to sit to Li Rui's left, Li Rui raised his eyelids and said, "You sit across from me."
The voice wasn't loud, but it carried an undeniable air of command.
Qin Shuang's smile froze for a moment, but quickly returned to its sweetness. She softly hummed in agreement and obediently sat down opposite her.
His fingers tightened slightly under the table.
Shen Bing sat on the other side with Lin Yu and Lao Chen.
"Let's begin the report," Li Rui said.
"I need to know every detail of Chen Tianxiong's death."
His tone was as if he were giving instructions to subordinates, rather than listening to a report from a person in charge of a peer unit.
Shen Bing remained calm and didn't seem to care much. She began to state the words she had prepared beforehand.
When she mentioned the "disappearance of the Crimson Dragon Crystal," Li Rui suddenly raised his hand.
"Stop." Li Rui turned to look at Old Chen, who was sitting next to Lin Yu.
"Are you the head of the criminal investigation team?"
Old Chen nodded: "Yes."
"Let me see the on-site investigation report."
Old Chen handed over the report.
Li Rui took the report, flipped through a few pages, and then tossed it back onto the table. The report slid across the smooth surface, nearly falling to the floor.
Old Chen's expression changed.
"You dare to release a report of this caliber?!" Li Rui's tone was filled with undisguised contempt.
"Incomplete energy residue analysis data, sloppy on-site evidence collection, and vague estimation of the time of death—is this the level of competence of the Jiangcheng Police Station?"
He looked up at Shen Bing: "Deputy Director Shen, is this how you usually handle cases?"
The atmosphere in the conference room froze instantly.
Shen Bing narrowed her eyes and said slowly:
"Section Chief Li, Jiangcheng has limited resources and its technology and equipment are not as complete as those of the protected area."
This report represents the best we could achieve under the current conditions.
"Limited resources?" Li Rui sneered. "I think it's limited capabilities."
He leaned forward, his hands resting on the table:
"I looked at the data on my way here. The Jiangcheng Police Station's case-solving rate has been less than 40% in recent years, and the rate of handling crimes committed by extraordinary individuals is even lower."
Deputy Director Shen, do you think this is a resource issue or a personnel issue?
These words were almost insulting, but they clearly did not elicit any emotional response from Shen Bing:
"Section Chief Li, your investigation was a bit oversighty. I was transferred here in the last few months. Why has it been like this for the past few years? You can ask Chen Tianxiong."
Li Rui's words caught in his throat, followed by a cold snort.
Lin Yu sat to the side, watching everything calmly. He didn't speak, but he knew in his heart that Li Rui was establishing his authority.
First, suppress Shen Bing to establish your own authority.
However, Shen Bing was no pushover, and she certainly made him suffer.
Qin Shuang glanced at Lin Yu from across the table, and seeing that he didn't react, a hint of disappointment flashed in her eyes.
She had been expecting to see the handsome agent show an angry or embarrassed expression.
But there was nothing there.
Qin Xue remained expressionless, as if everything before her had nothing to do with her.
Li Rui leaned back in his chair and tapped his fingers on the armrest: "Never mind, let's put the report aside for now."
He paused for a moment: "I've looked into Chen Tianxiong's social connections. He has a mistress named Su Wan."
How much do you know about this person?
Shen Bing looked at Lin Yu.
Lin Yu calmly said, "Su Wan, 26 years old, a local of Jiangcheng."
Li Rui raised an eyebrow at Lin Yu: "You know her very well?"
I don't know much about it.
"As an agent, knowing the basic information about the person being investigated is part of my job," Lin Yu said calmly.
Li Rui stared at Lin Yu for a few seconds, then suddenly smiled: "Interesting."
He turned to Qin Shuang: "Qin Shuang, are you interested in this person?"
Qin Shuang's eyes lit up, and she immediately sat up straight.
"Section Chief, I think this Su Wan definitely knows a lot of inside information! Chen Tianxiong may have told her some things."
I want to reach out to her and use my abilities to get her to tell the truth.
As Qin Shuang spoke, her eyes were full of anticipation as she looked at Li Rui: "Shuanghua's abilities are best suited for interrogation; I will make her tell the truth."
Li Rui didn't answer immediately, but looked at Qin Xue: "Qin Xue, what do you think?"
Qin Xue calmly said, "It's worth a try, but we need someone to cooperate, and we can't be too forceful."
Her voice was cold and devoid of any emotional fluctuation.
Li Rui nodded: "Then it's settled. Qin Shuang, go and contact Su Wan."
He paused for a moment: "Detective Lin."
Lin Yu looked up and gave a "gentle" smile: "What's wrong, Section Chief Li?"
"You're familiar with Jiangcheng and have met Su Wan before. Take Qin Shuang to see her tomorrow morning."
Lin Yu was silent for two seconds, then nodded: "No problem."
Li Rui smiled with satisfaction. He stood up and straightened his uniform. "That's all for today. Deputy Director Shen, arrange accommodations."
After saying that, he turned and walked out.
Qin Xue immediately followed, and Qin Shuang jogged after her. As she passed Lin Yu, she deliberately slowed her pace and said in a voice only the two of them could hear:
"Detective Lin, thank you for your help tomorrow~ I hope that Ms. Su Wan... won't disappoint me too much."
Her voice was sweet, but a hint of amusement flashed in her eyes.
It seemed as if they couldn't wait to complete the task given to them by Li Rui.
Lin Yu simply smiled faintly.
What did he do? Bring the Japanese into the village?
However, since Li Rui dared to let Qin Shuang act alone, he wouldn't be polite.
The conference room door closed, and Shen Bing slowly exhaled and rubbed her temples.
Old Chen looked very unwell.
"Chief, he's too..."
"I know," Shen Bing interrupted Old Chen, "but there's nothing we can do right now."
She looked at Lin Yu: "Be careful tomorrow."
Lin Yu nodded: "I know."
Lin Yu stood up and said, "I'll go and get ready."
When Lin Yu walked out of the conference room, the corridor was already empty.
However, as soon as he arrived in the hall, he saw Qin Shuang standing at the door, seemingly waiting for someone.
Her eyes lit up when she saw Lin Yu, and she quickly walked over: "Detective Lin!"
Lin Yu stopped in his tracks: "Miss Qin, is there something you need?"
Qin Shuang bit her lip, looked around, and lowered her voice:
"Tomorrow...could you cooperate with me a little?"
Lin Yu raised an eyebrow: "What do you mean?"
"It's just..." Qin Shuang blinked:
"I know Miss Su Wan is someone you know, and you certainly don't want her to suffer. But the section chief gave the order, and I have to complete the task."
She leaned forward, a faint scent of perfume wafting over, her full breasts inadvertently brushing against Lin Yu's arm.
"If you could help persuade her to cooperate willingly, honestly... then I wouldn't need to use my abilities. It would be better for everyone, don't you think?"
Qin Shuang's eyes were sincere, and her tone was full of "thinking of you".
But Lin Yu understood the subtext: if Su Wan didn't cooperate, she would use her abilities to force a confession.
Moreover, she deliberately said, "Su Wan is an acquaintance of yours," as a test.
"Miss Qin is overthinking it," Lin Yu said calmly. "I'm not familiar with Su Wan; I only know her by name."
Qin Shuang was taken aback for a moment, then smiled: "Really? Then I must have misunderstood."
She paused, then added, "But Detective Lin, I'm really doing this for your own good. The section chief is a very strict person."
If the mission doesn't go well, he might blame the person who led the way.
"Thank you for the reminder, Miss Qin. I will be there on time tomorrow. I have other things to attend to, so I won't keep you any longer."
After saying that, Lin Yu turned and left.
Qin Shuang stood there watching Lin Yu's retreating figure, a playful smile playing on her lips.
"Interesting..." she murmured to herself, "Looks like tomorrow... won't be boring."
